Very easy! And for the money, especially compared to the rip-off prices that Musicar charges, it really is a no-brainer. There are instructions in this thread...I really do not want to repeat it all here: https://rennlist.com/forums/718-gts-4-0 ... grade.html
The Musicar tweeters are expensive, but out of fairness to Musicar, they start with the Morel of Israel Elate speakers that sell retail for about $600 a pair. Musicar then modifies the tweeters to be plug and play for the Porsche dash speakers. I’ve never seen a head-to-head comparison between the Burmeister tweeters and the Musicar ones but found a YouTube video where a Porsche owner changed his Burmeister tweeters to ones from Musicar. I’m sure confirmation bias plays a large role regardless of which tweeters that you buy. IMO, it’s kinda jumping the gun to call Musicar charges as “rip-off prices.”

Maybe "rip-off" is not the right term; however, based on the comments from virtually everyone that changed their Bose tweeters to the Burms, as I also did, said that the spending about $130 was a deal compared to about $650 for the Musicar ones. Keep in mind we are only talking about changing tweeters! And again, this change is only recommended for those with the Bose system.

My first post here.

meh. the most important thing is balanced sound. the guy in the video never figured out how to balance the sound. then after this video he didnt drive the car and comments he has no clue which is better.

that gets a big shout out 80's: GI JOOOOEEE a real american hero....

maybe not. I am specifying my ridiculous Boxster T and keep going back to Burmester is the way to go for someone like me who has Passengers who are DJ's and club dancers, etc. Balanced sound top down going 70 mph is key. I was considering base system and then Musicar upgrading everything, then im noticing hodge-podge imbalanced ways vs engineered Burmester to the Boxster is kind of meh. Hm.

There's always a better mousetrap. I've struggled with Bose (we used to call it Blows) in several of my cars over the years. I find the Porsche is a tough one to make an argument for the Burmeister, given the cost and what could be done for the same price. If this upgrade is similar to the BAVSound upgrade in my BMW, then it's well worth the $$$ and a lot less expensive than the Bermeister. But I find the Cayman/Boxster platform doesn't lend itself to a great listening environment and it's hard to justify exponential investment for incremental return.

@Throttlesteer i totally agree. I went for the Musicar tweeters for $600 and I’m going to stop there. Even though nowhere near audiophile quality, the tweeter replacement significantly improved the overall sound.

I also did the Burmeister upgrade like Bob Z, really easy. Pop out the side vents and the tweeter is part of the assembly. Remove it, replace with the Burmeister one, trim the little tab off the wiring plug, insert, and button it back up. Almost takes longer to describe the installation than to do it.

My hearing is shot from loud guns for too many years w/o hearing protection, and the Cayman is a terrible sound chamber. I doubt I'd be able to recognize the musical system being an improvement.

Did the same and agree with your assessment of diminishing returns of going further. Base system to Musicar tweeter. Made a large difference.

I paid $650 since I was the first customer.

Agree 100% I did the Musicar Tweeter upgrade this past week and it's a big help but I'm stopping there. There is only so much you can do with the 718 listening environment and all that money could be spent better elsewhere ;-)

I had the Musicar tweeters in my 2012 Carrera S cab and they were very good. It’s important to adjust your Bose settings to get the sound you want.

I have the Burmester tweeters in my Boxster T. They were a significant upgrade to the base Bose. I really can’t compare because they were two different cars and I didn’t own them back to back. I don’t think you can go wrong with either. I would get the Musicar if there was a chance I wanted to upgrade further. If not, the Burmester are close enough in this sound environment.

My base with Musicar tweeter is not imbalanced. I was an audiophile in my youth and I love the details the Musicar (Morel) tweeters produce.

For you, with the top down, and at louder volumes, the Burmeister may be the only system that satisfies you.

Club dancers. You live the life, sir. Thank God my wife is hot or I'd be super jealous rather than merely jealous.
