Just giving an update of the voting by the members:
It was close as 45% voted ICE cars with the close runner-up are 43% would rather drink a cold beer or a glass and good some good wine.

Me? I like a cold beer at the race track on a hot day. I like Central CA Coast red with dinner.

The push is definitely getting stronger from many govts worldwide but reality will set in at some point.

I have little doubt that EV's (or something other than gasoline powered vehicles) will be nearly ubiquitous at some point in the future no matter how much we prefer ICE's. However, my take is that it's going to take longer, be more difficult to implement on a wide scale, be much more expensive than anticipated, and will have more unforeseen hurdles and consequences to overcome before that day arrives.

Meanwhile, while we wait for the chips to fall, we can enjoy the best of all worlds - ICE, EV's, Hybrids, Syn Fuels, Hydrogen, and Gasoline!

I don't have an EV, yet. I am sure there'll be one or more in my future, as the technology continues to evolve.

I agree with most of the comments in this thread. One observation, though, about Bill's comment in post #19:

Imagine having an EV in most countries in Africa, or Indonesia, India, or any number of other places that are just emerging or yet to emerge from third world status. What is the likelihood of a sufficient charging network being built in these places?

I frequently (~2/year) visit India as I grew up there and have family there. Every time I do, I am amazed at the leaps and bounds with which the EV infrastructure is growing. In the cities, the most common mode of transportation is a two-wheeler, typically a small 50cc motorbike or scooter. These things are going electric at a rapid pace. Apparently in many of them the batteries are swappable so folks can simply swap out their battery and charge it when convenient. There are many EV cars and SUVs also and charge points all over the place in the cities. All this is driven (I'm sure) by the huge price of gasoline which is something like 4X what it costs in the US.

It reminds me a bit of the mobile phone industry. When I was growing up, the sole telephone provider was the government and you had to wait 3 months or more for a land line connection. Going back 20+ years now there are any number of private cellular providers and EVERYBODY has a mobile phone. I'm not kidding when I say that my US AT&T phone almost always has a stronger signal in India than here!

So don't count out the 3rd world yet when it comes to the EV transition - they might surprise us in the West.

I can't respond to the poll properly - I have both - a 9114S and a Taycan Turbo S. I love them both. They are very different cars, but both are Porsches, both turn heads, and both are fun to drive. Naturally the 911 sounds better than the Taycan - LOL.

We have a 1971 914-6 and 2021 Taycan 4S. Love them both.

It’ll be a while before I buy an EV car… I don’t even know where I’d look… and I’m talking daily driver. I do know I’m not spending big money on anymore daily cars…I’ve got a ton invested in the cars I have now..
I do know prices will drop on EV’s across the board… so I’ll wait.. as for sports cars, even longer

He also discusses an experience with a 924 Turbo that he had for a short while and sold, regrettably as he stated.

I like that car makers are developing alternative fuels and EV's but I can't help but feel that some of the drive to EV's may be a bit misplaced. According to this article from 2009, https://newatlas.com/shipping-pollution/11526/ IMO our efforts may be better put towards giant pollution emitters like container ships.

According to the article: "Shipping is by far the biggest transport polluter in the world. There are 760 million cars in the world today emitting approx 78,599 tons of Sulphur Oxides (SOx) annually. The world's 90,000 vessels burn approx 370 million tons of fuel per year emitting 20 million tons of Sulphur Oxides. That equates to 260 times more Sulphur Oxides being emitted by ships than the worlds entire car fleet. One large ship alone can generate approx 5,200 tonnes of sulphur oxide pollution in a year, meaning that 15 of the largest ships now emit as much SOx as the worlds 760 million cars."

Let that sink in..."meaning that 15 of the largest ships now emit as much SOx as the worlds 760 million cars." Yikes! An old article to be sure, but I doubt that the situation has improved. I'm just not sure that ICE vehicles are necessarily as bad as some would make them out to be. But I really don't know...

I have a 2009 911 Turbo (ICE). My friend has a top of the line Roomba s9+(EV). Both are great vehicles for the British Blue to ride in (or on)...And even tho I have an electrical engineering degree, I chose the ICE any day of the week...
