This current iteration appears, to me, to be a stuck on aftermarket piece - totally unlike all your other creations. As you said....."still brainstorming" to achieve your desired outcome.Tom wrote: Mon Feb 07, 2022 3:51 pm
Honestly, I'm still brainstorming and open to all thoughts. When I designed this one, yes, I was thinking a boot would cover it. After I put it on, I started wondering if I could make it look natural without a boot...

"OCD Old Dude" is actually my middle name. (My parents were very forward thinking.) When I first got out of college, I went to work at a "Big 8" CPA firm doing tax work. One of the senior partners tried to give me a complement (I choose to believe) by saying I was the youngest old man he'd ever met, so I was perfect for the job. I quit shortly after and went to law school instead.
I have a plan for the boot. If it works out, the whole thing will just snug on from above without tools or fastener, so perfect for those who want to keep their car stock and modify it too. I was just mocking up shifters to see what proportions felt right in there. I'm tempted to go with the 992 GT3 shifter and modify its boot. If I went that route, it would become fairly expensive but if done nicely would probably have sufficient takers to make worthwhile. The issues with that knob are that (a) I don't know what's under the boot, so hard to know how easily it will adapt to my plans, and (b) the center cap on that knob has an M location for manual mode, and the 992 shifter nub doesn't work that way. So I'm leaning toward some other generic Porsche knob (maybe with a custom center cap), or maybe a 3D printed knob covered in leather with a custom center cap/legend that just has R N D like the oem nub. Or maybe just a post that people can put their own 8-ball or 917 knob on....?
