The price point of Joe’s DME and OBD is fantastic considering all the time and effort he has and is still putting in to this.

As far as a stock wiring harnesses it is honestly the easiest thing to repair and modify.

If you can change the oil or change the tires on the car you are fully capable of replacing wiring. It will just be a slow methodical process if you haven’t done it before.

Turns out I can do stuff with chips at my work.

Do you guys think the OBD upgrade is worth the extra dough?

I think it is.

Here is a quote from an email from Joe

“The OBD will work with any installed chip, it is independent of the DME program that is running.

FYI, the FocusOBD software has an integrated logging system. In the “Data Grid” tab, Simply click the checkbox next to the sensor(s) you want to log then click the “record” button. Press the “Stop” button when finished then the “folder” button to open the location of the log file. The log file is save as a CSV (Comma Separated Value) file and can be opened in Excel.”

Makes diagnosis of issues much easier.
More features keep being added to his setup.

I'm sending Joe my DME tomorrow and will be getting the Sport DME & OBD+ module. This was my first time pulling the DME... probably should have looked at some YouTube videos first, but it came out OK... just very tight quarters maneuvering the metal bracket that holds the DME and KLR.

Lots of fun fitting in there. I started pulling the seat out since it’s so quick to do with a drill or impact.

Yes, I would recommend getting the OBD+ as this will provide a path forward for future updates such as MAF and eventually full tuning capability. I just installed mine today and it is very cool to display the various sensors graphically in real-time.

Update: my NBO2 sensor has an issue, and/or the Transaxle Motorsports chip that's in the 951 is at fault as the NBO2 voltage output graphed by the OBD+ does NOT oscillate from rich to lean at idle like it should as the DME tries to control the mixture to stoichiometric. After the engine has warmed up the voltage runs between 0.73-0.75 V, and the NBO2 Digital signal always shows RICH.

For those that are still on the fence about the Focus 9 DME I have to say it's one of the best bargains around as a rebuilt from Porsche runs about $1500. Before I installed the F9T DME w/OBD+ my 951 had to crank a few revolutions before it started. Now, I barely turn the key and it's running. Not sure what changed but I'm not complaining. The latest firmware released 9/2/22 is a major update that includes ignition timing tuning that will be activated as soon as Joe confirms it's accuracy. MAF is coming too.

Is this product's goal to become fully tunable the way a standalone ECU is? If ignition timing has been addressed are there plans for tuneable fuel tables?

The ability to buy upgrade modules like MAP sensors and support for electronic boost control would be awesome.

I know very little about the current sport DME with OBD but at the surface level, it does not seem like it will move in this direction.

But I don't know! Does anyone have the inside scoop?
