WillyDaP wrote: Thu Dec 21, 2023 9:18 am No problem Larry , you are likely correct , there was likely some note written stating that it was not possible due to space constraints and then the issue could be tabled as something not to consider fixing. So thanks for bringing up the rationale to try and explain away an issue. Overall things like this are the tiny items on the surface that keep some things from being beyond spectacular and note, none of us skipped buying a Porsche because of it ---- it is just surprising on such a high end machine for driving , sun glare is not addressed with more attention.
There is plenty of room to extend the visor. The rod simply exists inside of the regular visor rod. I'll post the GMC pics vs the GT4 later today because I think what I'm trying to explain is not translating well here.

From your OP Bill: "My son sells Porsches and he says this is one of the biggest complaints with Porsche buyers and though they are fairly sufficient if the sun is directly ahead as soon as it is at an angle or coming through the windows from the side , it is beyond annoying."

It's the intense side glare when the sun is near the horizon and at right angles to the direction one is traveling that is the major issue. It is one easily solved but one Porsche has chosen to ignore.
As I’ve become older, I’ve found that I’d rather be happy than right. FWIW, debating the reason for the crappy Porsche sunvisor is an excercise in futility.😏
Very true and I'm with you. However, sharing comments about how some of us feel regarding an apparent design oversight, an oversight that doesn't need to be, is also good. I've had this discussion with service and sales personnel before, including this morning when I was at the dealership; it's one that comes up often with customers. If one is side-blinded by the sun, it's a distraction while driving and uncomfortable.

The fix is simple and doable but it has to come from Porsche (or some aftermarket company). The question was asked if other Porsche models had any kind of extension to which I replied "no", at least regarding Cayenne's and 911's in addition to 718's.

WillyDaP stated the visor complaint well when he started this thread, but as he also said, that doesn't mean that we don't like our Porsches, we just want them to be better! :D We are pointing out issues that some feel should be addressed, much the same as the LidLiner fix/upgrade that solves a different Porsche oversight. (I installed mine on the 718 a couple of weeks ago and am getting one for the 911. They are a fantastic add-on, so thanks for your recs on that.)

There are plenty of other minor deficiencies that have been discussed considerably here and elsewhere - inability to see the gauges in later model 911's, rear storage liners in 718's whose vertical edges don't stand up correctly, wind noise from open front widows, lack of proper license plate mounting for all Porsche models, voids in Boxster tops that Tom designed a nifty cover for, and on and on. No marque is above improvements and the more we express wants of this nature, the better the chance that they get addressed. (No, I'm not holding my breath but I can hope...)

I have yet to own a supercar that has a working or sufficient sun visor  In fact, in my AMG GTR the sun visor makes me laugh and smile every time I try to use it.

I found when I started buying more expensive cars I expected everything to be FLAWLESS! My assumption was, I am spending $xxxk on a car, it should be perfect in every way. I now realize that no matter how expensive a car is, you simply cannot insulate yourself from annoying issues that you would expect in a $20k car.

A funny example. I owned a CLA45, newer generation. Absolute rocket. I noticed you could not get a decent stereo in it, like the other AMG models.... It was odd. Turned out to be the worst stereo system I have ever heard, not even joking.

I later found out, Mercedes apparently decided to put a stereo with zero base in the CLA45 because they refused to fix the rattles in the door panel, trunk and A-pilar. A increase in base would make the entire interior rattle like Maraca, so they just took away the option for the better stereo system.

Problem was, the nearly 400hp 4 cylinder they put in the CLA45 with pumped in audio was so loud (not in a good way), it made the whole interior rattle anyways lol

That's a funny story - who would have thought!

Our expectations are occasionally unmet with these high-end machines and I am used to it but it does make one wonder at times. (I think they like messing with everyone's heads.)

I know this feature hasn't been around forever but I cannot remember a car that that didn't have something similar. Makes no sense to not include it. Sure beats holding my hand up to the side of my face to block the sun for miles on end when traveling due north or south late in the day!

I'll be darned, just went out to my truck and confirmed the visors do indeed slide out on the rod. I bought it new 8 years ago, and had no clue they did that.
