Thanks for all of the photos. We will be in Germany next September. I’m going to check our itinerary to see if we will be near any of these cool museums.
Best,
Larry

These were over several trips. The Porsche family museums are in Austria..Salzburg is a good base as they are close to a lot of this stuff. Zell am See in Austria is the Porsche family country homebase and is a neat place. VW and Prototyp Museum can be done on same trip easily.

The craftsmanship, the history, the way things were - amazing bit of photo-journalistic history of the Porsche legacy. Would be nice to see them all in person as you have, but the photos will have to do. Without your pictures that you've shared, I'd never even know about many of the cars, much less the museums where they are housed.
Ever considered putting together a book?
Thanks again!
The world Is full of Porsche books...I have a huge library myself and would not add much:)

Regarding the world being full of Porsche books, that's very true, but the many of those are much more commercially oriented, completely lacking what would be your personal and one-on-one touch. Your remembrances appear to be quite detailed and accurate. I suspect you have extensive notes too!

Not really a writer but now and then I do an article or two.
Now and then I have written stuff for my own amusement about cars ( not just Porsches) such as some stuff I did on the Targa Florio:
There are better and more original writers, believe me.
I have a bookshelf full of them:

I knew you had been an automotive writer on occasion but thought I'd leave that unsaid for the time being as I didn't want to divulge anything you might not have wanted seen, so thanks for filling it in for the others here! And thanks for the article links - I'll read your Autoweek pieces in a bit.
As you may have noticed in some of my posts, I rely on Autoweek online for much of my racing news and schedule links for the bits I post on Carpokes. I was a subscriber to the Autoweek print edition for a short few years before they ceased print publication. What a shame that it shutdown. I miss the magazine - it was very good - but I guess the fact that there's a tiny bit left online is better than nothing. Personally, I'm glad that we have Hagerty's Drivers Club print magazine that, while not as racing focused as Autoweek was, still does an outstanding job of providing high-quality automotive coverage. Larry Webster is one of the best I feel.
By the way, nice library Ronan!
Speaking of Autoweek, I wish they'd make a move to publish more (all, actually) of their forerunner publication's issues of Competition Press. I'd love to pore through some of those old issues via digital copies. They put out a PDF of the very first issue (July 16, 1958) some years ago but that's been it as far as I can tell.
By the way, our Tom here (Carpokes founder Tom McGuinness) has written for Panorama, 000, and others.

@RDMcG Such wonderful cars, the fahr(T)Raum ones especially. (Their placing their logo on these cars is a travesty however in my opinion.) That Hans Hermann is driving a Merc, not a Panamera is a hoot!
I am heading off this week for Austria and Germany. The trip includes stops in Stuttgart for the car museums, then a day driving the Nordscheife. There's a business meeting in there too, keep forgetting about that....

This thread brings to mind a business trip many years ago, where we had a corporate event in the National Coach Museum in Lisbon, Portugal. It featured mostly non-motorized coaches used by royalty from the 1600's to 1800's, along with some very early motorized vehicles. Interesting to see the evolution inching closer to early automobiles as time went on. This was long before phone cameras so I have no pictures, sadly, but if you are ever in Lisbon looking for something to see, it's worth an hour or three. In an era where most cars look very similar -- smooth and feature free -- it's pretty interesting to see how ornate and unique coaches were.
