I doubt an exhaust leak is the cause of a hunting idle. I'd block off the ISV and see if it goes away. If so, then I'd look at the ISV itself and/or how it is tuned. Also, vacuum leaks are always high on the list for a hunting idle... Lots of good Porsche shops in So. Cal. If you're looking for someone to help, you might ask Chris for suggestions. Performance Developments (Neil Harvey) is in your area -- that guy could tune a flower pot.
I had a bad throttle position sensor on my car. I wouldn't rule that out. If you can find someone to let you swap theirs out temporarily, that is an easy operation to do - basically right on top of the motor.
Thanks for the input guys, I will try and block off the ISV this weekend and let you know if that changes anything. Also thanks for the suggestion of PD will look into them.

Hi Bringing this back up, long post.
I ended doing a couple things that fixed the idle. 1st is I ended up blocking off the ISV, I'm in so cal so cold starts are not a huge issue and plus its not a daily driver. 2nd is I replaced the fuel rail from one that only had two mounting points (on intake manifold) that were wearing out (loose/wobbly had to do time certs) I went back to a unit like the one in the pictures that Chris White had originally installed. I am still working on a few issues that are mostly electrical probably from sitting for 10 years or so.
I just got back from a 800+ mile trip from So. Cal to Laguna Seca. I was bumper to bumper in LA traffic to 75-95 cruising all with the AC on and she ran 180-200 temp wise which I am very happy with. When on the open road I ran 3000-3500 RPM for hours and never had a hiccup or anything plus averaged 17.89 MPG overall both ways.
@Chris White, this engine is a competent cruiser and beast when pushed, I love this dam thing! I ran with a M6 and a Ferrari 599 GTB for quite a while at not smart speeds. I also embarrassed/caught off guard a certain CTS V from fwy speeds to say 50 over those speeds on only 14lbs boost (still need to have the injectors bench tested and get the motor dyno tuned before I push above 16lbs), CTS V was in disbelief and pulled up to run again cause he couldn't believe I pulled him, same result!
I did have a issue though, the dam AC tension rod broke again causing the haltech sensor to fail right as I got to the track. I did end up finding out why, the AC condenser is striped out on the back bolt allowing all the weight and tension to land on that rod end. I was able to order a new sensor have it overnighted to the track and weld the rod back together for a roadkill repair to get me back home.
Overall these are a labor of love as it would be much easier to simply buy another GT4 or GTS and have no issues, but these are special and in a sea of GT3's GT3 RS's etc. etc. I stood out as the ONLY 944 turbo I saw for over four days at the Rolex Monterey reunion (I was only at the track so cant speak to the hoopla in Monterey)

I was driving my 968 this week and remembered that I donated my car’s stock front sway bar to your car when the PO owned it. Hope it’s still on your car!
Also, how would you rate the Macan as an everyday driver? I’ve been looking at them.

Hi cp99
I believe it is, I am now getting around to a refresh of the front suspension since I have a weird thump on passenger side at low speed on poor road surfaces. I replaced the rear Intrax coilovers a couple months ago since one was blown out and that made a noticeable difference in ride and handling.
As for the Macan, I just broke 80k miles this week and I like it so much I ordered a 25 GTS for Euro delivery March 2025. For me it is the best all around car, you can be plain jane commuter or sporty when wanted. It really shines on open Hwy (LA to Vegas for example) have to be careful as it likes to cruise at 80+ and you do not feel like its moving that speed.

I have had somewhat of an absence here over the last few years due to my (then) new job, but I have gotten to a point where that isn't much of a factor anymore.
I am not down in SoCal, but I'm not far away. I live in Lompoc and also have a 944 Enhancement 3L 944 Turbo! I'm always down to help with anything if you ever need a hand! PM me if you want my phone #. Happy to help!

What brand / model shocks and struts are you now using?951N911 wrote: Fri Oct 18, 2024 3:37 pm Hi cp99

The Macan is on the short list. Thanks for the feedback.

The car came with Intrax RSA suspension on all four corners, the right rear was blown out so I replaced both rears a couple months ago. This weekend while working on the car (window regulator) I took a closer look at the front shocks and the right front is "binding" when pushing down (kinda stutter steps) and I didn't see anything obvious so I am thinking I should go ahead and replace the fronts too.
