I've just sent an enquiry to KW to find out some more information, they have new V3 Classic line coil overs available for the 944 and the springs look softer/more progressive than the standard V3.

On my car I would say that the springs on the original KW V3 shocks do not need to be any softer. Recently (2 years ago...) I tightened up the bump settings, bringing them halfway of the adjustment range as they were maybe a quarter close to the softer setting, and although this made for a great improvement in stability and control on smooth roads it has proven a bit of an annoyance anywhere else and am pretty sure I will be fine again going back to the previous settings.
I will proceed after filling up with vitamin D - after weeks of disappointing weather it is sunny and hot here at last and walking hours in my home town whilst most locals are gone away for summer vacations is very enjoyable and relaxing at the moment.

Enjoy the walks Tom. I’m about to take the dog on one as well.
I was intrigued by the Classic line and looked on the website. It seems to be a cosmetic option, namely a silver or black coating to make them stand out less - I didn’t see any mention of different performance factors unless I missed it.

So I softened the compression setting front and rear from 1/2 to 1/3 between soft and hard and have the front rebound setting at 1/2. I don't know about the rebound setting at the rear as I never adjusted it and it is a pain to get to. Anyway the ride is far better now and I find myself hovering on slightly bumpy roads with just the right balance between comfort and feedback, at least on the variety of country roads where I mostly use the car these days. It is quite remarkable how the car is sensitive to small variations in the compression setting. I had not driven the 951 for perhaps a month and I am falling in love all over again. It's still the best all-round "performance" car that I have ever driven... Yada, yada!

Confirmed, it's just cosmetic, they must have used a stock photo for the website as the springs look completely different

Not sure if I should be posting about a slightly embarrassing encounter that took place yesterday, on the way home from a 700 mile drive (unfortunately to attend funerals) ... but that is too funny/ridiculous to keep for myself.
At dusk, on the way home and cruising comfortably at around 90 mph on the highway, I suddenly saw ahead an early gen Boxster. The driver was making his way to the outer lane, patiently waiting that the series of trucks ahead had overtaken each other. I was already on the outer lane, closing in at a higher rate and found myself ahead of the traffic when sure enough I saw our friend in his Boxster catching up as he was apparently eager to play. I was too happy to oblige, switched from 6th to 5th and applied moderate load to avoid losing traction but what should have ended in tears for him turned into an embarrassing moment for me as upon accelerating my phone fell off its bracket straight onto the switch, ahead of the gearshift, that controls power supply to the fuel pump... before I realized what was going on the engine cut off and I had to coast with the warning lights on. In the heat of the moment it took me a good minute that seemed to last forever to figure out the "issue". I was relieved that it was not something serious like breaking something but equally furious that my phone fell off its bracket for the umpteenth time again, and for once exactly where it should not have. I tried to catch up with the Boxster but unfortunately it seemed to have exited the highway shortly after as I never saw it again.
That cheap phone bracket had been bugging me right from the start for its inability to grip my phone firmly and ended up in the trash can after being somehow passionately taken apart in a thousand pieces by my left foot.
Otherwise the car ran great. The suspension is now as good as can be for road use but I think I need now to upgrade the axles as I still get little vibrations in the rear axle that I suspect could caused by failing CV joints. Not a big issue on shorter drives, but on longer drives such as yesterday's which is how I enjoy using the car best this is getting long in the tooth.
I heard about "stronger" CV joints used on 930s (108mm rather than the stock 100mm units) but who can supply shafts in the 2 different lengths required for a 968 gearbox?

Frustrating that something like that happened and quite possibly ruined your day, I know it was a relief later that all was good with your cars operating system however should you possibly put the fuel pump control back on a term 15 switch relay?

Well, this little incident was insignificant compared to the funerals but a bit strange that the phone really had to fall on the wrong spot at the only moment in the whole trip when I "needed" the power... bad vibes?
Re axles, is xschop still around?
I found an old post from @Tom on the "old" board saying xschop made for him custom axles to be used with 108mm CV joints.

The axles and CV joints have held up since that post, though my car is much tamer than it was back in those days. I haven't seen or heard reference to xschop in many years. You might check with the guys on 944hybrids to see what the V8 guys are using these days -- xschop was part of that crowd I believe. That said, I strongly suspect that most of the CV problems are related to movement of the transaxle. That little rubber hanger just isn't up to the task when the power gets up there. I tried semi-solid mounts and hated the noise and vibration, so opted for urethane-filling the mount. If that's not enough for your car, I'd be inclined to fabricate some form of panhard bar for the transaxle itself...
p.s., have not forgotten about our other project. First try was a flop, but I'll get it....

Thanks @Tom, I will investigate. This all seems like a new mini project of its own.
No hurries at all with our little side project, you have helped tremendously already.
A buddy of mine might be able to make shafts on his lathe, I will check with him.
