Thats a beast looking 944 S2 Bergerac. Good to know a fellow West OZ perthian with a 944 S2 aswell! Not many of us here ( I daily a 89 944 s2 cab stock lol).

Out of curiosity before you swap the original block to 968 block and custom rods etc, do you know if your S2 90 original piston is forged?

When the car is running you should bring it to UWA cars and coffee mate, let us have a look!

Thanks

Cheers mate, I used to go the CC&C a couple times a year but the cars been off the road for nearly a year now.

As far as I'm aware the stock pistons are cast but I haven't opened my S2 motor. I've heard people have machined the pistons to lower compression for a turbo but that's not for me.

I'm aiming to get to German Car day this year if I'm not working

Things have slowed down a bit with the last 1%, I had to source some parts so I could rig up a system to prime the oil before first turn over. I also discovered the stock 968 oil temp sensor in head has a strange calibration I haven't been able find calibration data for so I sourced replacement Syltech sensors for Oil and Coolant temp to keep everything consistent. The was also a few issues with the stock coolant hoses not reaching the turbo which required a custom solution I didn't have parts for. In amongst all that I've managed to rupture a disc in my lower back which has put me out of action until I find out if it requires surgery.

With my downtime and a large tax return approaching I've started thinking about suspension upgrades. Everything on the car appears to be stock apart from Koni sports shocks and the Elephant Racing Sports Camber blocks. I'm 99% sure at the moment I'm going with KW V3's, the stock 26.8mm front and 19mm M030 rear sway bars and fresh ER Sports bushes all round. I find the car crashes quite a lot over sharp bumps currently but I'm not sure if that is the Konis or the 35 year old rubber on its last legs.

I'm not if sure anyone has any other recommendations suspension wise, I'm trying to keep the car as compliant as possible, while Id like a bit more performance at the track, we have quite horrible roads and there's no point going with anything harsher if my back wont let me drive the car to the track.

Sorry to hear about the broken disc. Fingers crossed you will be back in action asap.

You should be fine with the KW V3. They are expensive now and there may be "better" offerings these days but I like mine and even if they are getting on a bit now I would not risk trying anything else until someone compares them back to back, on our cars, with something else.

Thanks Thom, it's frustrating to get held up at this point.

KW may seem expensive compared to what they were but Intrax 1K2 are probably 50% more by the time you add all the add-ons (and more track focused from what I can tell )and MCS 2WNR are 100%.

I'm not sure what other options are out there, I'm not a fan of the Konis and all reports say Bilstens are similarly harsh on the street.

I had kw V3, swapped for kw competition, inserted stiffer springs.

I wish I went for intrax in the first place, because semi slicks has to much grip.

@Bergerac
You might want to reach out to our illustrious leader (paging) @Tom regarding KW as I believe he has those on his car and seems well pleased with the improvement over stock and judging by all Thom has done on his car and his positive comments on KW I've been convinced I need to do the same in the future. You can never go wrong replacing suspension bushings if they are anything more than 5 years old....elastomer degradation is small on a daily basis but over a long time, effectiveness really drops off. The dynamic improvement after replacing suspension bushings is something that always brings a very positive comment from all auto enthusiasts regardless of what type of car is being renewed.
Sorry to hear about the back...take care as it's a delicate item based on the number of people I've known with back issues.

I would also recommend the KW’s however in your situation I might consider going above the V threes and going for the club sports or two way race option.

I love the KW V3's on my car, with 968 adjustable sway bars. Definitely fixed the high HP squat my car was experiencing, although my old shocks were so shot, anything would have been a big improvement. I'm really not a big suspension guy, so can't really compare the KW's to other options, but they completely transformed the handling of the car... Love them!
