I say the ONLY reason to buy this thing is because you think it is cool. I like mine, but it is expensive and impractical. It weighs several times the plastic part it replaces. To a bare hand, it feels sharp-edged, uncomfortable while turning. The machining is imprecise, and some buyers report that the key does not fit or is difficult to turn.

But it is a limited edition part, and the Steve McQueen connection is enough to tug at some of us.

Finally, I think the key bezel lighting looks really good reflecting off the aluminum; a nice glow.

@ReidMcT
@Tom

Testing re the auto rotate issue you had in your post above.
https://www.carpokes.com/viewtopic.php? ... 145#p45130

I downloaded, rotated the result and re-attached your photo to this post. It's ok in the preview mode. Will post ('submit') and see if it holds. Not sure why that was happening to you. Tom implemented some photo posting protocols to the site recently so maybe that caused it?

If it happens again, please let us (or Tom) know. Maybe there's an auto-rotate setting somewhere.

Shuffled some cars around this morning and I was parking my Cayman in the garage for its needed brake inspection and likely replacement later this week. The brake wear sensor tripped the brake service light, I have not had that happen before.

Got to run some hot laps with the Great Plains Region of PCA and had fun keeping semi close to an older Ferrari Cup car. My student , Chris K, was in the Novice Class but I predict he moves out of that group in the next weekend or so. He was ripping it up, no real mistakes and for a driver new to Porsches ( he had a 1LE Camaro prior ) he was consistent with his lines. The track we run ( I-29 Speedway ) has one tricky section in the final quarter of the road course and Chris almost mastered it ---- I know drivers who have never mastered this area.
Now his Instructor, who happens to have over 10,000 miles on this track, did not garner many kudos after doing a lovely agricultural 360 and covering his radiators with a zillion dandelion pappuses from the infield.
Here are a few pictures of Chris's beautiful Gentian Blue GTS with a tan interior and bronze Apex wheels --- stunning machine.
I may be the old fart in the picture, but notice I am styling in a Carpokes hat and a Carpokes T-shirt!!!

Tim just got my attention on the rotated photo. Are you posting from a Mac by any chance?

Thanks. I'm all Microsoft. It was a photo that I cropped and rotated from its original.

My brake pads were worse than I expected. 5 track days since my last quick inspection.

Wow! I'd have thought the wear indicators would have some margin. Yours appear to have triggered only when the pad was gone.

I think I should make a habit of checking the brakes directly, not relying on the indicators (which are annoying to work with anyway).

Yes, I'd say your pads are kind of gone Jeremy! :lol:

I don't use the indicators - they tend to go bad from heat anyway. Wires are disconnected and zip-tied out of the way on the fronts. Also, since I rotate often (after every day or event), a quick visual and/or measurement with the simple color-coded lining thickness gauge is easy. I tend to log the measurements periodically too so that I have a more accurate idea of how pads are wearing and so that I don't forget what I measured... :(
