Just for reference. I purchased this one a little over a year ago.

This looks like the two I had bought. I still have one, lightly used.

ahh maybe the earlier rev was lighter, some of the posts around said it didnt line up correctly with the VR sensor so maybe they added more material to correct that. Well I guess it will be quite a lot heaver than my original S2 220mm flywheel/clutch, I guess I could have afforded to take a bit more weight out of it to retain the stock feel.

Let us know how it feels when you get the car running. You have a lift so getting back there shouldn't be too much of a pain if you think you experience excessive inertia when changing gears. I first replaced the stock (lightened) flywheel with the first TTV unit with the car on jack stands in my narrow garage as I had no other choice during the various covid lock downs. I then had the second TTV flywheel lightened which I installed about a year later with a friend who has several lifts in his shop.

In retrospect I am a little curious why the folks who ran the TTV flywheel before me did not seem to be bothered with the high inertia. A heavy-ish flywheel like stock may work on a lightly-modded 8V engine but the rev-hungry nature of the 16V engine may make the issue worse and I remember much initial frustration, as the strong acceleration came at odds with the mental pause required when changing the gears up, waiting for revs to come down. The overall impression was not too dissimilar to driving an early Gallardo with F1 transmission, great engine let down by a way to change gears that completely detracted from the driving experience. With a 944T where the driver should be in full control thanks to the manual gearbox the high inertia felt nearly like adding insult to injury.
It seems that Top Fuel dragsters use the heaviest flywheels they can to boost peak torque, but they do not have to change gears like we do on a street car where engine dynamics must balance out pace changes and engine and gearbox have to work together rather than again each other to make for a coherent package IMO... Sounding like a broken record again, sorry.

Yes can only wait and see now.. I didn't really have the mental space to really think about it properly before, I was pushing hard to get the project done. It's ironic that the harder you push the slower you usually go.

Off to the fabricators for inlet piping! Will be ready for a start and break-in after that.

Agreed on that. The more you learn, the more you realize there are a lot of details that need to be considered and they all require time and additional effort to get right.....

This might be one of my favorite 944 builds 😊

What power level are you going for?
