Oh, sorry, I forgot to update. Turns out my clock spring was faulty, dealer replaced under warranty and now all is well. I've put my steering wheel project on the back burner as I'm in the middle of installing nav software in my PCM. Hope to have it up and running by the weekend, then I'll address the wheel project again.

That sucks about the clock spring. You really don't want to take apart the piece. They're worse to wind than an old lawnmower pull start system. I made the mistake of having to re-wind and set a clock spring from a 2003 Audi RS6 avant years ago and it took many hours of googling and calling blaupunkt and kufatec out of Germany and learning some german for help to get it to recenter and for the ECU to relearn and reset positioning.

Just a tip which you might already know, codes are only soft stored(if this wasn't the clockspring).

If this was just simply stored by the ECU, you can pull off the positive wire from the battery and wait a minute and it should bring the ECU to rescan again. Glad you found the problem! 5 bucks says Porsche reuses this spring on 1/3 of all models
