Seems gas at $5-$6 per gal has a lot of people back looking at EV's. I own 3 911's, a Macan S and a Taycan 4S. I have a hard time grasping the hostility that people have for EV's. I love the Taycan. Drives like a Porsche. Handles like a Porsche. Looks like a Porsche. It might just be a Porsche. Why do some people consider it something less than a Porsche? 250 mile range for about $4 is hard to complain about. Performance is there in spades. Styling? Turns heads everywhere. The view out the front window is spectacular! Press the go pedal and hold-on. All the while zero tailpipe emissions. People ask why not a Panameria? I say: "Why put-up with all the nonsense of an ICE? The car is virtually "Solid State". I've had zero issues or problems with the car, although the fourms are full of horror stories from others. Reminds me of the people who complain about the Boxster not being a "real" Porsche. Or the 996 is just trash. Or my favorite: "Why doesn't Porsche build a cheaper sports car for the entry level?" Folks, Porsches were never cheap. Many people are finding out again why electric cars are desirable. At $100 plus for a fill-up vs. $4 - its a no brainer.

shades of Hyundai....
"...virtual gear changes, and a more emotive Electric Sport Sound..." 🤣

I have a better idea, make an ICE version of the Taycan if emulating one is the goal. Otherwise, leave it as intended - an EV.
I was driving along and a new Electric Challenger pulled up on my right while sitting at a light. I lowered my window and what do I hear? Fake exhaust sound. It really wasn't all that bad. But apparently the public thinks the car isn't so great as it has already been discontinued.

EVs are excellent cars, at least most of them. And the Taycan is by all accounts at the top of the EV rankings in just about every aspect. I've driven several Taycans over the past few years and the experience was very good.

I think the initial issue on this thread was more about fake ICE-like emulations planned for many EVs, specifically what is coming for the Taycan - fake shift sounds, fake tachometer, etc. To me, that is very un-Porsche like, but I could say the same for other Porsche bits regarding the company's modern ICE vehicles such as the Sound Symposer and the like. In defense of Porsche, the same or similar fake attributes are true for a lot of vehicle manufacturers, EV and ICE.

For all vehicle types, add in excess (to me) driver nannies, a bazillion sensors and cameras, touch screens in place of real switches and buttons, digital everything, etc. and there will be push-back. I have late model Porsches and love them all but still detest those excessive systems and lack of analogue. I've learned to get over most of the dislike because the cars are still magnificent machines and will remain so as long as everything is working properly.

(As an aside, the complexity and the materials used are concerning and will be more so as modern vehicles age. Plastic won't achieve patina. It will just break, crumble and disintegrate. Digital components will not be easily repairable. Repairs and access to parts will likely be challenging.)

Because I prefer ICE vehicles, I personally don't want an EV but I realize and applaud that they are an excellent addition to the available driving choices, same as Hybrids, hydrogen (if it ever makes it to the big time) and whatever else that materializes and is viable. Personal choice is the salient point for me.
