As I suppose most of you know, the EU has exempted ICE cehicles that are capable of running on e fuels from the absolute ban on internal combustion engine cars by 2030 (5?), so one has to wonder if Porschad inside knowledge of this and is thus moving forward with production of e fuels.
E fuels sound great, but without massive subsidies will be horribly expensive and out of reach of probably 80-90% of motorists. And what makes an engine different by being e fuel capable? Many petroleum fueled engines can run on èthanol/methanol and other bio fuels with a bit of modification. Can an e fuel motor run on gasoline? I admit I'm not terribly knowledgeable about all this, but how do you prevent an e fuel vehicle from fueling up with petroleum based fuel?

The Hagerty piece that I attached to the last post explains some of what you're asking.Bill in Bama wrote: Wed Mar 29, 2023 10:46 am As I suppose most of you know, the EU has exempted ICE cehicles that are capable of running on e fuels from the absolute ban on internal combustion engine cars by 2030 (5?), so one has to wonder if Porschad inside knowledge of this and is thus moving forward with production of e fuels.

One thing specifically is that current ice cars will supposedly run on syn-fuels:
"What would I need to do to my car to use it?" "That’s the beautiful part: Nothing. This e-fuel is a true drop-in replacement, provided the mix is correct." There's more about that in the article.
Regarding cost, that's a problem, but those involved in the project and others feel that further development and scale will overcome much of the high cost. Besides, if governments decide to dictate the demise of gasoline, then they'll tax it to death. In that case, plain old gas could be even more expensive than where syn-fuel costs are today. That would most assuredly be the case if the same overlords decided they actually liked e-fuel.

When Porsche started talking the electric future of the Boxster, it motivated me to order a new GTS 4.0 two years ago. A year into driving the 4.0, and a few rides in neighbor's Teslas, I'm not tempted towards an electric Boxster. But it's nice to have options.

2025 Cayenne e-Hybrid
2015 Ferrari California T

This is the dangers of government controlled anything, they will not listen. Electric holds no value for me and I don’t give a damn how fast it is! No choice equals no freedom, this head strong run into a now an even more unknown future.
