Actually, I'm an equal opportunity driver, Dr. Bob. I have two Hyundais (one 2005 Santa Fe and a 1995 Hyundai Elantra GLS Wagon) and a 1995 Chebbie Silverado extended-cab to handle my domestic duties, as well as my 1974 914-4 and a 1973 VW Bug. All have their use-specific duty-applications and I'm one of those lucky Californica citizens who handsomely support Governor Gravel Noisome's gasoline and registration taxes (so he can indulge in favorite money-pits like the vaunted Californica High-Speed rail fiasco, LoL) . No one rides in my 914 or Bug unless they meet Mercury Space Program crew mandates (not taller than 5'8" or weight more than 165 #), and not even my beloved Husky bitch gets a free ride in them (or wifie, for that matter). Yes, I'm a bit OCD on that score. I do plan to take your advice to heart, however. I have a close friend in the People's Republic of Berzerkeley who has a red, low-miles 1962 Porsche 356B Cabriolet that I've been itching to take a spin in. He's going to allocate me a few miles to get the feel of a REAL Porsche...

As an addendum to my earlier observation that Jeff failed to give ANY credit at all to the 70s era 914 as the direct ancestor of the lovely Boxster and Cayman models, I wish to add that, having just finished an in-depth reading of Jeff's 'Enthusiast' book on the 981.1 (2.7) series cars, I am stuck by the enormity of Jeff's success in drilling down on the specifics of the cars as he has. This is definitely a book that all Boxster and Cayman people ought and need to buy (as well as everyone interested generally in Porsche GmbH's and Volkswagen's histories). It should be considered as a mandatory addition to any P-car enthusiast's basic reference library. [TOM: If you are in contact with Jeff, please convey my sincere congratulations to him on putting together such a useful and fascinating work on these lovely beasts for both owners and admirers!]
