p.s., you and Hawk have the same avatar (what are the odds) so didn't realize who this was at first.... :)
You need to look very carefully to see the different front facias, hood, and the wing on the GT3. Oh....and can't you see that my wheels have the shark blue ring around them? lmao
I came up with a temporary fix for now :)

Now with cheap $8 universal boot, and the knob tilted back a bit. I'll start working on a frame for the boot. I think if done in good Crazy Eddie leather, with a squared off frame, the boot might work? I'm also mulling the idea of printing the knob as part of the adapter and having it covered in leather as part of the boot -- as inspired by my recently redone 944 shifter. I'm thinking that may be a way to keep the height down a bit....

I'm liking the proportions of the 944 shifter much better and the continuous leather covering. Will you need to print the knob and the adapter as two separate pieces? Keeping the height down will definitely help. And, of course, you will need to convince Ed to get on board.

Yeah, and the nice thing about printing the knob part and covering it all in leather is that I can make it any shape/height I want. I also checked pricing on modern Porsche shifter knobs and they are predictably ridiculous (and even taller than the one I have now). Printing it will let me get the right shape, and will add virtually nothing to the over all cost, so hopefully a win-win. I'm thinking the whole thing will be 2 pieces -- the adapter with integrated knob, and a frame that tucks in around the base to square off the boot, etc. I also have an idea to add a stress relief in the knob to give it some play, and to prevent over stressing the nub with the extra leverage, but baby steps for now...

Before springing for a real Porsche shifter knob, I thought I'd mock up some sizes/shapes to see what looks best. That shifter I got from amazon looks nice in a vacuum (especially for $15 or what it was) but I thought it was too tall and looked out of proportion. So here is a quickie 3D printed (all one piece) I did to start honing in on sizes/shapes. Almost makes me wonder it needs the leather boot part if I get the perfect shifter knob.... The 992GT3 PDK has a round-ish knob, but it's $650 and the legend on top isn't really right for this car. So I'm looking for a nice (small) Porsche knob that would look 'right' in this car. Or I may just print something and have it wrapped in leather...

Is the idea to cover the OEM shifter and the extension with leather so it doesn’t look like the new shift assembly is “glued” on?

Honestly, I'm still brainstorming and open to all thoughts. When I designed this one, yes, I was thinking a boot would cover it. After I put it on, I started wondering if I could make it look natural without a boot...

Just my honest opinion Tom......I believe that it needs the boot to tie in / blend with the interior and to hide the rectangular "glued" on design / transition required to connect to the existing shifter. This current iteration appears, to me, to be a stuck on aftermarket piece - totally unlike all your other creations. As you said....."still brainstorming" to achieve your desired outcome.

@Hawk and @Tom I also think that it needs a boot to tie in and hide the existing shifter. However, the available area may require a boot that looks a bit awkward. The new Audi RS3 and VW Golf R (my two prior cars) also come with a “peanut shifter” unless opting for the manual transmission. On the VW and Audi forums there are also a lot of complaints about the new design. Interestingly, with the new GT3, Porsche is using a more attractive and standard looking PDK shifter - maybe this design will carryover to the refreshed 992 PDK models? I tend to keep everything OEM looking, particularly in an iconic car like a Porsche, despite not being thrilled with the PDK “Braun shaver” shifter. If I owned a 992 I probably would wait to see if Porsche redesigns the shifter for the 992.2, and if so, see if it can be retrofitted. Alternatively, I would be open to dressing up the existing shifter with an Ed-designed leather wrap, maybe with deviated stitching to match the other leather / stitching in the car. I can even see embossing the N, D, R letters on the leather in the deviated stitching color?
Just my $0.02 from an OEM / OCD old dude.
