I'll suggest that the torque tube is actually not loaded in torsion but rather in bending. It is a moment arm, countering the axle rotation, so will be bending much like a beam, but upward (opposite of a conventional beam). The slit opens when the bottom of the tube (beam) is loaded in compression. For a great example of this force, watch the body movement of a top fuel dragster under acceleration.

Are you doing anything to pin the front bearing in place, or just hoping the welds will do the job?

In 2021 I purchased a new non-split Center Tube, 944-421-012-02, from Sunset Porsche Parts and had it installed locally. Glad I got it when I did as it's a discontinued part now. I haven't noticed any additional vibration in my S2, so if you can find a good non-split tube, I'd opt for that.

Good luck getting one from Porsche, that quote was in Australian dollars, so approx US$2900 for an exchange unit

I honestly think any attempt to pin it is more likely to misalign it than allowing it to settle into the TT where it needs to
