As far as trans axle Porsche's though check out Nardone Automotive for 928's I think they look great.

The Aime Leon Dore 944 turbo is a great example of a nice interior restomod. The car also has augment wheels 17 inch phone dials. Other than that its stock. Ive seen it myself. More of a cosmetic restoration no so much a restomod with performance upgrades. Still very nice though.

One very capable company that could do this sort of work is Automobile Associates in Canton Connecticut. They're 911 centric, but certainly have the skill to do what you're after.

I am deliberately re-building my 86 951 to "compete" with the 930s. Given how expensive they have become, and how iconic "turbo" is to Porsche, I feel it is time, money and effort well spent. My goal is to slightly surpass the capabilities of the 930 in HP and handling, without breaking the bank. Given the number of thumbs up my car receives, I think I'm on the right path...

I would like to think that a properly sorted 944 Turbo would be able to out perform any 930 (with comparable mods) without going too crazy. My car made 305/306 (94* day) to the wheels with a Raptor X turbo, stock AFM and custom chip. Other than exhaust and wastegate, I haven't done suspension yet, though thats happening in the next couple of weeks. I was just barely able to keep up with a 2016 GT4 on the highway.

I think part of the demise of the 944 is that it was performing too well against the 911. I'm all for getting more restomods out there. I hope one day, mine will become a homologation restomod of the 1981 944 Turbo GTR

Sounds like you have achieved the power i'm looking for. I'd love to see a more detailed list of mods you did to get there. I decided to tackle the suspension first, and looks like i will be installing a set of coilovers from Ground Control. I'm curious to know why you are thinking of?

The 944 Turbo S was faster than its contemporary 930, at least around Willow Springs when driven by Derrek Bell.

There is a pretty time-tested formula and progression for adding power to a 944 Turbo, at least up to a point. I've had my car running from bone stock all the way up to 500rwhp, and I'd say about 300hp with a broad power band is the sweet spot. If you go much beyond that, you need to start thinking about clutches, turbos, engine management changes (e.g., MAF or standalone), etc. All great fun, but if your target is a 930, you'll do fine with a good set of chips (e.g., Vitesse Racing), boost controller, and cat delete (maybe a wastegate if yours is tired, as most originals are). Those mods alone will transform a stock 944 Turbo.

Thanks for the inputs. I've seen this message from you in a couple of threads, and I agree. 300hp is what I'm shooting for as a balance between cost and reliability. I'm starting with suspension (as mine is completely worn out). And then move on to power. But i also want to tweak the interior, and kudos to you for the innovation you've shared in transforming your car. Love the site!

There was a full nut/bolt “restomod” 951 in BAT that sold for about 80k.

I’m not sure there’s a market to support a 6 figure car and by the time you put singer level time/parts/fabrication in to it…. You’ll have a 200k car that someone might want to pay 90k for. Maybe.
