Excellent stuff to know - thank you! That's an interesting experience with the pull-over on the autobahn - never heard of that kind of thing - so again, great feedback for others. Glad that you were able to follow the dictates without letting them diminish the fantastic experience. And yes, your timing was indeed quite good!

No real surprise about the Polizei pulling one over on the Autobahn as I was warned by friends in Deutschland/Switzerland about certain incidences when planning a European trip in 2020. We obviously did not make that trip , but I was warned to be cautious about staying in the left hand lane even when passing if there was a big gape to the next vehicle I would go by if cruising at higher speeds. Also, the warning concerning when the open speed limit changed usually meant enforcement of the posted speed and that they leeway in Germany was not as generous as in the US. Lastly , I was actually told that since I would be driving on temporary plates there would be a chance I would be stopped to make sure all other items were in order -- primarily insurance. Heck, if you wander into Switzerland you must immediately acquire a Swiss highway pass ( essentially a tax permit ) because getting caught without there would nail you and the fine is nasty. The best info I had from friends was to get an International Driver's License ahead of the trip ( even though most European Countries accept a US license) as it might be beneficial for little items like what happened to the gentleman in this thread.
