This looks great, I’d be in for a yellow one once available!

I haven't started making these in bulk because I haven't been thrilled with how they fit/look. Larry can add his thoughts, but the other bezels I make all feel/look like they could be factory parts (imho), and I'm just not convinced this one is at that level. The hood around the bezel makes this one a real challenge.... When time permits, I may get back to it and see if I can't find the magic design that has eluded me to date.....

IMO, the 718 sports chrono (SC) bezel cover is not ready to launch, and unfortunately, may never be.😞 Unlike the Taycan and the 992, the 718 SC enclosure is too tight to get a cover to adhere properly. Even the 20+ iteration didn’t fit well and looked a bit cartoonish despite Tom’s expert fabrication skills.

@tom and @Larry C
Stumbled upon your original thread while looking for ways to add a touch of yellow to the SC in my 718 Spyder. Truly impressive the work that Tom has put into this and his humbleness as it relates to the 718 not meeting the Porsche Standard.
@Bob Z posted once about removing OEM bezel and painting. Anyone happen to know the Porsche part number for this? I would like to buy a spare to try painting. Also, any recommendation on what commercially available rattle can of yellow best matches the Porsche racing yellow?
I may also remove the SC dials and paint yellow as well. If someone also knows these part numbers that would also be greatly appreciated

I’ll defer to @Bob Z but I don’t think you can buy the OEM bezel as a separate part.

Correct - the only way to get a replacement bezel is to buy the entire SC unit! There is another thread here though with some items that may help...

Thank you @Bob Z and @Larry C for your quick replies. Unfortunate that buying just the bezel isn't an option. After a bit of searching I found the OG thread I stumbled upon and will buy a couple of the cheap Amazon bezels to paint to see if I like this before permanently painting the OEM bezel. As I recall the Amazon ones don't fit the 718s.
If I like it I may wait in the hopes that Tom develops one for the 718 that meets his high standards.
I may also just buy a yellow dial set and only use the outer ring to add just a pop of color.
Thanks again for the support you provide users on this forum and others!

Hi Guys, a lot of good stuff got buried in those super long threads when we were developing all the bezels. But to respond to BrewKaiser's questions....

1. I believe Bob is correct about the bezel not being available separately. However, he might recall that we successfully replicated the stock bezel in plastic. I just never pushed the plastic replica because most people willing to remove the factory bezel are also willing to paint it. But for someone who wants to preserve the factory bezel as delivered and still have a painted bezel, the plastic version is a good solution. The plastic clips in the replica are weaker than the original pot metal version, so won't hold up if you repeatedly install and remove it, but if you just paint, install it, and forget it, it should look identical to a painted original. I just hope I can find the CAD (.stl) model. :shifty: See pictures below.

2. Rustoleum makes a "Farm and Implement" paint called JD Yellow, which is a virtual match for Racing Yellow. It's extremely close -- probably as close as custom paint you would get based on the code. It's harder to work with than Rustoleum's "Gloss Protective Enamel" series, so I tend to use that in "Sunburst Yellow" for yellow bezels. Sunburst Yellow is close enough for knobs and bezels in my opinion, but JD Yellow is virtually identical if that's what you are after. Color dial faces are not really a good match for the color they claim to be, so the bezels don't need to be either to look 'right'. The only exception in my opinion is where the car has the interior trim painted in the exterior color. If you have Racing Yellow dash trim, it is best to match it as closely as you can so the difference isn't noticeable....
