Blower motor gasket
Does anyone know if you can reuse this (late models)? I'm fixing my fan resistor wiring next to the blower motor and there's a lot of crap I'd like to clean out from around the blower motor while I have the cowl off. But I don't know if I want to remove the blower assembly and risk damaging this seal. The PET describes it as a "sealing cord".

It’s just butyl tape. Same stuff that the tail lights use to seal to the body. Around where I live, you can get it at autozone. It doesn’t harden or dry, so you may be able to reuse it, but it isn’t a guarantee.johnb wrote: Sun May 22, 2022 7:16 pm Does anyone know if you can reuse this (late models)? Is it the same as the stuff used to hold the plastic cowl in place over the blower motor?Darwin wrote: Sun May 22, 2022 8:33 pmIt’s just butyl tape. Honestly I’m not sure. When I removed mine, it didn’t seem like it was the same stuff. When I removed my tail lights, it was still pliable and tacky. Whatever they used on the cover seemed to have actually dried and was hard/brittle.johnb wrote: Mon May 23, 2022 4:51 amIs it the same as the stuff used to hold the plastic cowl in place over the blower motor?Darwin wrote: Sun May 22, 2022 8:33 pmIt’s just butyl tape. Yes, it really is the same sticky, black butyl rope that comes in rolls for installing windshields and such. It usually stays soft and tacky but will harden with age and weathering. I just replaced mine with some I had left over from an old windshield project on another car and it worked perfectly.

I used exactly this (3/8ths butyl tape) to reseal my old NA's blower. The original stuff looked to be the same, except where the seal failed (maybe I wasn't the first to remove the blower) and/or where it oxidized and hardened.
That’s the stuff I used too. It’s exactly the same as what was in my car and my box lid had never been off before.

Thanks guys, I got that stuff from Amazon. So anyway, here's why I wanted to pull the blower motor assembly:
Looks like the car is falling apart with rust, right? That's what I thought too. But then...
Tada! Gone. Years ago I had a really badly rusted battery tray and I had to get some serious repair work done there. The guy did some kind of media blasting. I'm not sure what he used, but it looks like a lot of it accumulated behind the blower and eventually turned into that rust colour. But it also hardened into these solid chunks that perfectly mimic a rusty body. A couple of minutes of gentle scraping and vacuuming and it's as clean as a whistle.
Next question: any suggestions for what to use to replace the foam around the evaporator? It looks similar to the stuff used to seal the intercooler. Years ago I replaced that stuff with foam tape, but it would be tricker to do a clean job on this with the same tape. If anyone has done this before, I'd love to know what you used!

@Tom What was it that you were using when you were R&R’ing your heater box during your dash swap?johnb wrote: Sat May 28, 2022 2:49 pm Thanks guys, I got that stuff from Amazon. So anyway, here's why I wanted to pull the blower motor assembly:
