I hope this is allowed, I wanted to voice my recommendation for a firm that offers steering wheel recovering. Those who followed my recent posts on the subject know I ordered my 718 GTS 4.0 with the carbon fiber wheel, but regretted it almost from the start. I just like the feel of leather rather than the hard CF portion. So I started looking for a way to covert. I looked at Suncoast and could order a leather MF wheel for $1000, fairly cheap by Porsche standards, but that was in black, and my interior is Espresso/Cognac with Cognac stitching. So I looked at some recommendations from the community on a recovering firm, and found three I think. Two were in Europe, one in the U.S. I read reviews on them all, and finally decided on Dallas Custom Wheels for several reasons, ease of communication, quick turn-around, price, etc. Then I started emailing with them and found they would sell me a bare wheel with my leather requirements, no exchange, core charge, etc. I would just remove all the trim from my current wheel and swap it over, simple enough. I liked that option and I could either keep the CF wheel to swap back to original when I sell the car (if I ever do!), or sell it and possibly recover most of my cost.

I asked for all leather in Expresso with contrasting Cognac stitching, and the center section of the wheel to be in perforated leather. They complied, quoted a price and I ordered the wheel, and it came in yesterday, about 2 weeks ago. That was really quick, I thought. The wheel workmanship was excellent, everything was as I wanted, except the contrasting stitching wasn't Cognac, but a kind of grey color. I immediately contacted them and they almost immediately got back to me, telling me they would redo the stitching if I could supply them with the correct color. Eddie is helping with that, and I'll send the wheel back(on their dime, they will supply a shipping label), with the thread sample, and they will correct the color.

While my transaction isn't complete yet, I couldn't be happier with them for their business ethic and the wheel looks outstanding. I see it as a big win since I'll get a wheel unavailable from Porsche (maybe they could do the perforated leather but at what cost?) for much less than if I'd ordered the contrasting stitching on the wheel. I have no affiliation with Dallas Custom Wheels except as a customer, but I just wanted to let everyone know if they need this service, that this company is an excellent choice. And Carpokes rule, what great help from the organizers of this forum!
