Engine Sound 992 Turbo

I have a 2023 992 Turbo with sport exhaust. Love it. But, sometimes I feel my engine has a ticking sound that I think isn't awesome sounding. My kids, when I raced a Huracan, said, it was awesome we won, but the Lambo sounded better. I agree. The dealer said this was normal but I wonder if others notice the same thing?

Kind of a faint jingle bells sound at low rpm, just off idle? Mine ('21 Turbo S) makes that sound and I initially asked the dealer to investigate. But shortly after getting the car I was at a PCA cars and coffee and realized that just about every 992 leaving the show made the same sound...

Not sure exactly what you might be hearing, but Porsches do indeed have a few odd engine harmonics. Every one I have now or have had has different sound attributes at different loads, RPMs, speeds, etc. Not all of the sounds are what I would call awesome, especially at low loads and low, steady RPMs. Some engine noises can be a bit odd, characteristics of the motor designs I guess.

I think Porsche engineers have to work hard to overcome potential drone in the 2,000-2,500 high gear RPMs of flat six motors. However, open one up and they are fearsome and soooo pleasing, especially from behind.

My 718 GT4 with Soul OAPs is the best sounding of the bunch (outside of the V8 Cayenne). However, I recently put a set of Soul Sport Cats on my Turbo S and it made a big difference with no drone. It rivals the GT4 for pleasing audibles. Your kids will be happy!

No mufflers, just the Sport cats. I tried the valved exhaust system first and it sounded great at idle or at throttle. However, too much drone for me at the 2k-2.5k range which is where most cars will spend the bulk of their time if in traffic, cruising, etc. There was no avoiding that RPM range outside of driving flat out, obviously not possible.

I switched out to the Sport Cats (same price) and am very pleased. Excellent sound, no excessive drone, can turn off easily using sport exhaust on/off and you can hear the twin turbos, especially from behind. Really cool sounding.

PS - OAPs on a 982 GT4 will rival the exhaust note of the 981 versions imo.
