Hey all, just looking to document the resurrection of this $1200 944 base model I purchased. It sat for 20 years.
Work so far.
Fuel pump
Cleaned injectors
Plugs
Got it running again!
To start I drained the tank and replaced the strainer which was a sheet of plastic. Next I replaced the fuel pump and filter, spark plugs and poured some Marvel Mystery Oil in each cylinder. I then turned it over by hand and did a dme bypass to see if it would start. No dice. Shot some starting fluid down the yap and she barked and died.
Cleaned the injectors and now she is running surprisingly smoothly with no smoke, knocks or ticks. Only ran it for a few seconds fortunately.
Drained the oil and OMG the worst sludge I've ever seen. I drained it filled it cycled it and drained it and filled it again.
Now during this time also discovered the rack and pinion seals are non existent. So I will be rebuilding that along with the oil pump and water pump and timing assembly.
After that, tires and a test drive
