Anyone know anything about "Racing Red" as a PTS color? I don't see it in the configurator for the 992, and the Rennbow entry shows an entirely different color for Racing Red... Is this version available to mere mortal as a PTS color? I really speaks to me.

Only four available PTS reds for 992.2 911s: Guards Red, Superior Red Metallic, Peru Red, GTS Red.

Porsche's PTS site:
https://media.porsche.com/paint-to-sample/en
They have a bit of background info on the colors which might be helpful as to origins, etc.

Another "Wob" listing on BaT. He somehow has access to and sells more "no miles" specialty cars, especially late model 911s, than anyone. I imagine he represents a lot of flippers as well as collectors, Check out his listings - hundreds of cars through BaT .

This particular 'Racing Red' Sport Classic was a high mileage example  (for a Wob car) at 2,400 miles. Bid to $501k but didn't meet reserve!!

In the configurator for the 911 Turbo, they have 38 shades of PTS green, and 2 shades of red (not counting Superior Red because it's not really a red). I don't get it, at all.   I read that Racing Red is really Ferrari Rosso Corso (though haven't been able to verify that yet) and that it was removed from the PTS list. Cars like this show that it's 'feasible' to paint other reds, and racing Red is offered for other models (e.g., Macan) along with other reds like Absolute and Arena -- so I'm baffled why Porsche won't offer them for the 911...

The lack of reds has never made sense to me. And I have no idea why the official Porsche site lists Guards Red as a PTS color when it's clearly an available "Dreams" color on the configurator.

I guess you could go with the PTS Plus option at a reasonable $32,940 cost. :(

Hmmm... I wonder if they'd do it under the Plus program? If so, at least then their motives would be clear. But this color was already deemed feasible on a 992 and then they yanked it from PTS (much like Azzurro Thetys). I'm thinking the primary disconnect with the whole notion that they'll paint any feasible color, or maybe it's how the define feasible. We don't want to, therefore it's not feasible. :wtf:

The car with that PTS color was a Sport Classic. My guess would be that the Racing Red was a special color set aside only for that particular halo 911. Very limited model, very limited colors to increase the exclusivity. Maybe?

Maybe that's why this one was bid to half a million dollars and didn't sell. It's a million dollar color. ;)

I just realized absolute and racing red is available on other Porsche model PTS lists, but not on the 911. So I can only assume it's a business choice of some kind. Oh well. :silent:
