After 3+ years I finally got the car on the road again. I purchased it in summer of 2020 and blew the head gasket the next year. And in the middle of a home remodel, it didn't get touched for a while then work was slow.
Car was equipped with a Vitesse system and I didn't care for it, so I pulled it out.
Welded up a new 3" downpipe
Installed a new SCE gasket
Installed some ARP studs
Designed my own cam sync housing, 3D print to test, finished is Anodized 6061
Designed my own DBW throttle body adapter again in 6061 anodized
Mounted the coils on the cam box, installed new insulated fuel lines from BAT, Nuke fuel rail and Radium FPR with Honeywell MIP sensor for Maxx
Built my own wire harness for the MaxxECU
Currently learning Maxx and a friend is helping me get it going. The car is drivable. But more to be tuned.
Long road, but we're here
Reached max attachments so...
Active priorities to be done over the winter:

Awesome work on so many fronts! Every picture deserves a thread of its own! Congrats on getting it going. Very interested to hear how that head gasket does over time!
p.s., is that an actual store name in Iowa??

Yes, it was. They were acquired by Maverick out of Utah recently and are changing the name.Tom wrote: Thu Oct 23, 2025 2:11 pm Awesome work on so many fronts! Every picture deserves a thread of its own! Congrats on getting it going. Very interested to hear how that head gasket does over time!

I helped develop this HG with SCE/Athena a few years ago. The initial group buy was ~50. I have not heard of a single person having any issues with these. I went through 2 Cometics before installing 1 in one of my 89’s.

I installed that same HG in May 2024 and so far so good. I have gone as high as 19 psi of boost.
'89 Turbo S-Glacier Metallic Mods: Evergreen Turbo-"Raptor" stage II, Bell custom intercooler, FTech 9 DME & OBD+, Tial 38 Wastegate, GFB EBC, A-Tune, 3" Turbo Back Exhaust, Cross-Drilled rotors, refreshed suspension
Congrats on getting her back on the road.
I purchased the CANChecked 28 as well for my MaxxECU. But then switched to an Android double din head unit and installed Realdash. It’s connected to the ECU via wired CANbus. Pretty straightforward. I love the size of the screen to really look at data. Realdash is awesome. And once you figure out CANbus it’s really easy to use.
I’m also looking into sequential ignition and fueling. Do you find it changed anything as far as drivability or MPG?
