Modifying Steering Wheel Stalks

As I'm sure some of larger 944 owners have noticed even if you install a deep dish steering wheel the indicator stalk gets in the way of your knees, I've been pondering this for a while but I'd like to modify mine in a way that will give me a bit more clearance to get my knees up behind the steering wheel so I can turn left and use the clutch at the same time.

Has anyone get any ideas short of cutting the stalk and fabricating an offset piece? I have a feeling this will be slightly flimsy
