Here is a little card I painted in Rust-oleum "Sunrise Red" out of a $5 spray can. You can barely tell it's there, right? If you think it's a bit lighter than the hood, zoom in and look just to the left of that card. So, yeah, Sunrise Red is closer to Guards Red than lots of touch up paints I've bought over the years. :)

Yeah, it really makes me wonder if it's just a convenient coincidence, or if Rust-oleum picks popular colors on purpose....?

No clue but the only way I've been able to get reliable results with touch up paint is to actually have what they used to paint my car (I guess I'm lucky?). Gonna tell my friend about this!

Very true. No two cans of "guards red" are the same. We had 3 guards 951's at our cars and coffee recently, and none of them were exactly the same.

Your friend sounds like a future Carpokean to me.

Is the one you painted on the left? What is the one on the right? That one does not look close.

I had partial respray on my 2006 Boxster. Body shop said they've seen multiple guards red on porsches. And not just from fading

The one on the left is the close match, and the one I use. The one on the right was just a decoy to make people miss the near-perfect one on the left. It was my 'clever' trick to make people think it wasn't that close -- until they zoomed in and realized it was sooo close they didn't even notice it was there at first.
