I did, but decided it's not worth it. You have to tear it out, wrecking it... I don't want to mess around with that and the smooth leather all around it. Honestly, If I was going to those lengths, I would just get a custom steering wheel ha.

To everyone other than 71eh, so many people have swapped the airbag trim ring with zero issues (I did it in 2 cars) that if someone is contemplating it they should do it.

I was not suggesting anyone should not do it, just what I ended up doing. Was just suggesting, in case those who did not know, it does not pop out like other trim pieces (air vents).

Have you done it on a 718? Do you have any how-to tips you can share?

Until I read your comments, I'd though the only way was to swap the whole airbag module. I see them for sale.

Thanks!

You pull it out forcefully, destroying it in the process. So you first have to source the replacement.

They are the same on all P-cars. The ring ends are melted on that back side so as said above it will not be reusable when removed. The replacement is not the same material as it is rigid plastic but identical otherwise so when painted it looks 100% stock. Personally, I used a dental tool to get under it and then started pulling until I get a pair of needlenose on it and then it is just a matter of pulling it out as you move around the ring.

Yep, that’s a mod I wouldn’t touch. It could go very bad.

So, a non-stock, non-reversible mod? And apparently a friction fit (no melting)?
