Hey folks,
I thought I heard that there is a "Porsche P/N to (other German Car P/N)" list somewhere on this website. The examples I read about is that the 16V motors can use an Audi hydraulic valve tappet that is the same thing as Porsche uses but cheaper. Also that Type2 VW Vanagon rear axles will work on our cars as well. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I don't remember that, but it's quite possible. I've seen various lists like that started here and there, but they are rarely all that comprehensive. Would be happy if folks used this thread for listing parts they know to work!
As for the lifters, no personal experience, but I understand the Audi/VW lifters, INA 4200022100, work in a 16v motor.

There is a VW axle that fits, but by all reports they are weaker, so not recommended for cars with lots of torque. I can find the number if you want it. I run custom axles with VW EMPI 98-5084-B CV joints, which are purportedly stronger than stock.
p.s., a very belated welcome to Carpokes!

There is a list of parts cross references that Dean has graciously brought together here:

In terms of the CV joints, if you have 33 spline axle shafts, you can run the EMPI Type 2 CV (EMPI 87-9917) run on many VW's. I can attest personally that they are quality parts and have survived many autox and track days (and much cheaper than other options for axle replacement):

Additionally, they also come in chrome moly, EMPI 98-5084:

The chrome moly are likely overkill unless running high HP applications and also upgrade your shafts to chrome moly to strengthen the entire axle assembly. In both cases, you must disassemble your existing axles and re-use the shafts, as these are just the CV joints which attach to each end of the axle shaft. Obviously, youll also need to pack them with grease before installation.
In terms of lifters, I have read from multiple sources that the 16V hydraulic lifters are the same as VW VR6 engines, which are much cheaper than porsche OEM:
