Has anyone Painted/Replaced their chrome airbag ring?

As I continue to paint/replace all the chrome accents pieces in my 718, I am always drawn to the airbag ring.

Has anyone attempted this? This sounds like something @Bob Z would do....?

I read someone you can pry it out, but it will be ruined in the process, so you will need a painted replacement... Has anyone successfully taken the ring out without damaging it?

You cannot remove it without destroying it! It is melted onto the backside of the airbag; however, you can replace it with a plastic one that is identical - countless owners have done so. But I cannot get them anymore but this person should:

I forgot to say that I have done it though, twice. You will have to lightly sand it and spray it with Satin Black...just a few light coats will suffice. It should press in but if you want it more secure you can put some clear silicon into the slots before installing it. I actually painted mine Racing Yellow and Miami Blue after Satin Black since I wanted them to pop.
