I have a '23 GT4 with the "Preparation for Porsche Dashcam" option, XWN.
It would seem there's 12 volts available at the rear view mirror mount, meant for the dash cam. Has anyone installed a radar detector there and used the 12 volts for the dash cam to power the detector? This setup would seem to eliminate chasing wire across the windshield moulding, down the A pillar to the fuse panel. Maybe it cuts power to the connection when ignition is off and it's fused? (I have no plans to install a camera)

If yes, is there a link to info, a video, parts list, etc? Best mount to use?

Thanks,

Mark

Hey Mark,

There have been a few discussions here about using the "Prep for Dashcam" for other devices. Here's one thread I found that touches on that:

There are more scattered about on Carpokes I think, but that one should give you some ideas. Also, maybe others here will see your post and can get you some answers.

Meanwhile, welcome to Carpokes!

Looks interesting but the manufacturer's web site is lacking in that they do not show a Porsche Model C installation photo in a 991.1.

Also, what sensors do they use in the front and rear cameras?

I use this camera on my tundra. Just periodically check the files, it has corrupted the micro sd card in the past and needed to be formatted to continue operating properly.

Yeah I agree. Probably a good practice with any dashcam....but I format the card within the FITCAMX, using the FITCAMX software, every two months or so.
