I mentioned the SpeedoBooster in the picture thread, but thought I'd start a dedicated thread rather than derail the other one. This originally started out as a way to calibrate inaccurate speedometers, but then later I added the boost gauge control because I wanted the dash gauge to indicate more than 14.7ps... I ended up combining those two projects into one box. Here's a video showing what it does, etc...

Great product and highly recommended. Unfortunately where I live speed enforcement is quite active with very little tolerance allowed, so the factory speedo being out by the 10kph was always an issue. I fitted Tom's speedobooster a while ago and now my speedo is spot on, GPS checked.

I may ask you some questions about this in the near future. My car reads 77 when I’m doing 70.
1984 VW Rabbit Pick-up - Not stock
1988 944 Turbo S - Really not stock (Chris White special)
2012 VW Tiguan - Kinda stock
2013 Cayenne Base - 6 Speed! Tastefully modified, mostly stock

That's how mine was too. I'm sure someplace like Palo Alto Speedometer could calibrate it to be accurate with stock tires, but this way you can adjust the speedometer to be accurate no matter how out of whack it is, and no matter what tires/wheels you're running. I end up making one or two a year on request for people... For stand-alone guys, it's also a very easy way to get the dash boost gauge working. PWM can be made to work I'm sure, but suspect you'd need to a 2k and 1.9k resistor inline with small cap to ground between them. You'd also need to develop a table to convert the map sensor values to the PWM values needed to show the right pressure on the gauge.

Don't really need it for the boost gauge, would only need it (or something similar) for speedo correction. My link has an extra Aux output that I can set for PWM to get the boost gauge running, just have to figure out the tables (Plus I already wired everything up to fit the factory 8 pin footwell connector!).

Yeah, in that case you just wouldn't use the boost-in and boost-out wires. I can dig out the formula I used for the boost gauge voltage output if helpful. You can use it to populate your tables. One thing to know is that the boost gauge and KLR act as a voltage divider, so you need to produce a 0 to 5v signal for the boost gauge, but then add a 3.9k resister (or better a 2.0k and 1.9k, with capacitor to ground in between, which is what the klr has). That way, the voltage you actually see by the time it gets to the boost gauge is 0 to about .9vdc, with about .45vdc (or about 2.25v +/- before the resistors) showing 1 on the gauge.

I had the PCB's professionally assembled, so was charging for these. I think the rack rate was $125 when I was last pushing them, so how about $100 shipped as the Carpokes valued-member discount? :) Email me at [email protected] if you want me to make you one. Not entirely sure where I stand on harness supplies, so might take me a week or two to pull one together. :) See the installation instructions here:

You bet. Someone else asked for one recently, so I've been meaning to get going on making up a batch. In the past, I was charging $125 for them, but have offered them to carpokes members for $100. If you want me to make one for you, it'll take a week or two. Feel free to email me at [email protected] to make arrangements. :)
