Hi,
I have an '04 996 C4S that doesn't get enough regular use and sure enough its 7 year old battery died. The AAA battery guy measured the alternator at 16 volts. He opined that the alternator might be running too hot, that with the old battery it could have been trying to run a higher voltage because it wasn't charging well. I doubt these things are that smart but then again, chips are everywhere in cars these days. Does the alternator need to be adjusted or reset in some way with the new battery.
Thanks

Several other things to reset after a new battery, like the radio, but I am not aware of any adjustment to the alternator. If it's still showing a true 16v at the new battery when the alternator is running, I'd be inclined to take the alternator in for testing. Its voltage regulator may be bad.
