I just purchased a Futura SPort Range car trailer that lowers/raises for easy drive on/off. Nice bit oif kit. During my dummy loading of my 981 GT4, I followed the Futura recomended strapping down of the car using the loop over the top third of the wheel and then tighening the straps down with the hand winch to side of trailer. There is a rail system similar to cargo planes on both sides of trailer. For each wheel, I secured one end about 15" from the wheel and the winch side about 15-20" on tthe other side of the wheel.

For many cars, this would be fine, however due to the suspensions/wheel set up, the suspension coils are very close to the top of the wheel. This means the strap from the loop gets fouled into the coil. There is not much space, but with no gloves, I can manage it. At teh end of the day, when the weels and brakesa re hot, it will be another matter.

I tried the other method of running the straps directly through the wheel and out to the side reailks, but the car is too low and the strap leading to the side rails, fouls the bodywork.

I would be interested to hear how other folks safely tie their low riding cars down.

Cheers,
Nick

I'm a huge fan of Mac's - I use no other products for tie downs and those sorts of things. They manufacture the best and most reliable, innovative systems anywhere. Mac's will have the gear that will solve your needs.

Their website is full of products and solutions, so you might find what you need that way but if not, I've also called and asked them for advice more than once over the years, so that might be an option for you if no solution materializes beforehand.

PS: what should work for you would be one of the VersaTie configs or even additional anchor points mounted at optimal points. Either one of these fixes should allow you to tie down using through-the-wheel padded straps in such a way as to keep the straps from getting into any bodywork.

As for wheel net type rigging, unless you load the car on the trailer immediately after coming off a long session or race, it shouldn't take too long for heat to dissipate sufficiently so that you don't risk damaging straps or gloveless hands.

Like blueline I am a huge fan of Mac's and once you buy a set they virtually last forever ---unless you are a generous guy and give your set to a guy when he buys your trailer. Of course this necessitates one to acquire another set of Mac's when you realize you were foolish to sell your trailer and it would be wise to buy another, ha.
