I had my car wrapped in PPF, and I opted to let the installer remove the rear "Turbo S" emblem and apply it over the film, rather than cutting around it. I knew it might not stick as well and, sure enough, it started coming loose. I took it off completely for now so it didn't end up on a highway somewhere. I'm trying to find a good molding tape to re-stick it. I'm a big fan of the red 3M super-strength molding tape and use that on my license plate mounts, but it is thick and foam-like and would make the emblem sit off the car by at least a mm.... The factory tape (see pic) is about the thickness of electrical tape. Anyone know what that is and/or who makes something similar for cars?
Curiously, the factory tape is not a laser cut pattern, but rather strips of 3mm-wide tape....
Best tape for emblems?

Tom,
Take a look at 3M's 06385 part number. RBL makes a line of double sided adhesives as well.

Good luck

Jed, that 06385 looks better than anything I've found at .08mm. Thanks! I'll give it a shot and report back.

I ordered 3M 5915, which is .4mm thick. We shall see when it gets here... Although, I'm starting to worry that I'll miss my cabinet badge....

Tom --
I suspect, but don't know for sure, that those badges are readily available.
But, do you really need those steenking badges on the car? I've enjoy stealth mode in most of my cars over the years. No bumper stickers, model badges, vanity plates, nothing that would help a witness remember me or my car. Yer onner...

I have to say, even now that I found the perfect tape, I'm not sure if I prefer the badge more on the cabinet or on the car.... Still sleeping on that. I do think I can reuse this one, so maybe a moot question, but I seem to recall they sell (or sold) badges in the standard non-optioned color, meaning I'd need to paint a new one if I wanted it to be "gloss black" like the one I optioned on the car... ?dr bob wrote: Sat Jul 24, 2021 12:15 pm Tom --

Or... Fix up the optioned glossy emblem, and put the matte-finished replacements on the matte-finished grey cabinets.
In some odd coincidence, or maybe parallel thoughts in opposite street gutters, I have exactly the same gray plus silver handles in black casings Baldhead cabinets in my garage. Their factory/headquarters is at the north end of town here, and it was a really easy choice for the workbay. You have a slight advantage though; 928's come with no exterior model badging. Closest is "928" at the bottom of the rear window molding, hidden under the rear wing. Of course there's a badge on the hood. But nothing "928" to adorn the cabinets.
Goof-Off will get the old adhesive off I expect.

Small world. I never put two and two together, but I was in your neck of the woods when I came up to get the Baldhead factory tour and pick out cabinets, I'd guess in 2018. Those guys are a class act -- on budget, on time, just great to work with. Now you have me thinking about gathering emblems on eBay or the like from all my past Porsches and 'naming' the cabinets with them!dr bob wrote: Sat Jul 24, 2021 4:55 pm Or... Hm, I gotta say, I kind of like the car without the badge. The black PORSCHE script is pretty subtle. It's not like 991 that had the huge expanse of... nothingness when you de-badged itTom wrote: Thu Jul 15, 2021 12:10 pm I ordered 3M 5915, which is .4mm thick. We shall see when it gets here...
