Great subject and a topic that keeps my head spinning for sure. Honestly, in the 911 there are few things a guy can do with the car on the ground by the side of the road. I carry a few basic wrenches and screw drivers and spare bulbs, fuses, and a complete tire repair kit with a scissors jack, lug wrench, etc. But beyond that, we have limited options on the side of the road. More than anything, I carry a good assortment of spare parts so that if I have to have the car towed to a mechanic, at least I might be of some use in having the part he needs.
In trying to put together a useful tool kit, I just don't know where to draw the line. I mean metric wrenches - okay. Screw drivers, okay. But a set of torx, triple square sockets, E-torx sockets, hex wrenches, ratchets with 2 feet worth of extensions, and on and on. Sheesh, I might just as well stay home!

Phone and AAA membership plus Porsche roadside assistance. Tire inflator.
I do carry lots of stuff in the Jeep - survival kit, various tools and heavy duty jack etc. Also my iPhone has emergency satellite.
Not sure I would want to fool around with centre locks on the roadside.

I always have kept a pocket knife in the car. Currently I have a Leatherman Free K2 in the Box. The tools in the front trunk and a cell phone are pretty much it.
