Oh ok... So, if your dongle is acting up, you can easily just turn off and on the power to re-boot it?Stormy_Monday wrote: Tue Nov 14, 2023 12:52 pm When the car was new, I didn't know that the USB outlet in the arm rest turned off after a while. Now it is easier the cycle power that way than to unplug/re-plug the USB.

yes. I think the proper way to accomplish all this is an add-on to the head unit itself that makes a dongle unnecessary.71eh wrote: Tue Nov 14, 2023 1:05 pmOh ok... I'm tempted to just plug it in
I am mounting my phone ontop of my smokers package (thin magnet). Might be easier to just get a thing usb/Iphone cable and plug it in each time.
There has to be a better way haha

I use one of these to power on/off my wireless Carplay adapter with Android 11 tablet mode. (https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Ex ... r=1-1&th=1)

I originally started with CarLinKit, but after a long, frustrating experience with them I got the Ottowcast. Immediately worked as intended and have never had an issue since.
Do be aware that whichever wireless adapter you use it will deplete your phone battery very quickly. For longer trips or if my phone is already low on battery I just connect via USB cable in the armrest, unplugging the wireless adapter

Thanks for your reply! For me, long trips I would just plug it in. I just want something for all the little short trips each day I take. Get in the car and just start up Spotify, and not worry about plugging it in each time.BrewKaiser wrote: Sat Nov 25, 2023 7:19 pm I originally started with CarLinKit, but after a long, frustrating experience with them I got the Ottowcast. I really like the carlinkit one. They all pretty much work fine, some have more features but the Carlinkit one for basic ACP or AA is great and whats important for the 718 is the form factor. It fits perfectly on the underside of the console lid and the cable is just long enough to open the lid but not so long it gets in the way. This means your console space isn't affected.
I've done a few videos on adapters, some do even more - like video streaming on your PCM. Check out my playlist:
