Well, I somehow missed this thread, but that's OK since I had great fun and a few laughs scrolling through the pics.
My story? I'd been a dogs-only lover since the dinosaurs roamed. Could not tolerate a cat. However, we lost our two Labbies, one after the other, a few years back. My wife and I talked about another dog but held off as we'd recently become empty nesters and are heading towards retirement and condo living. So I say to my wife one day, let's go to the shelter to look at cats. She nearly fell out of her seat! We got there and found two, one I liked and the other she preferred. So I said "let's get both" and again, almost sending her into cardiac arrest. We ended up getting both. Unfortunately we had to return the tabby (my pick) because of several severe behavioral issues, but the remaining one, Solstice, really came out of her shell after that. My daughter recently got an 8yo Lab from the shelter. As much as I love it visiting her and Zelda I've really done a 180 on preferring cats now.
Here's Tank and Solstice. It was taken through two window screens so isn't the best but you get the idea.

My family had 3 rotties when I was growing up. Just lost my 12 yo BC-x to cancer a week ago today. It's still a bit raw, she was a very good girl.“Dogs' lives are too short. Their only fault, really.” (Agnes Turnbull, novelist)Tom_N wrote: Fri Dec 29, 2023 10:16 am Outstanding!
But yeah, their lives are too short. I've had female Rotties continuously for 43+ years, always at least two so that I'm never without one. Sadly, they too have such short lives. My oldest, Trina is now 9½. Gonna be another hard loss but the times with them are irreplaceable so all is good.
Here she is when we got her a brother when she was 2; on guard duty; and on her last day, resting after a paddle at her favourite spot.

Great story. Pets of all kinds are so important, but most especially dogs and cats (and Mojonito's donkeys!).Tom_N wrote: Fri Dec 29, 2023 10:35 am Well, I somehow missed this thread, but that's OK since I had great fun and a few laughs scrolling through the pics.

Memories of our pals... It's very difficult to lose them but I can tell your girl was especially sweet and had a life of love. I've had a couple of Border collie mixes and they were fabulous. (That's been too many years ago to count.)j1nx3d wrote: Fri Dec 29, 2023 1:58 pmMy family had 3 rotties when I was growing up. Just lost my 12 yo BC-x to cancer a week ago today. My Great Dane is beginnig to fade at 10 years old in the last few weeks. I drove her down to Arizona from Canada so she can have a mild winter and hopefully get through the season. We will see. Here is a pic a took this morning:

What a countenance! There's so much understanding and awareness in her face.RDMcG wrote: Fri Dec 29, 2023 4:00 pm My Great Dane is beginnig to fade at 10 years old in the last few weeks. Loosing pets is hard, but loving them is easy.
