So I was trying to use my luggage cover from my other 981 GT4’s
The 718 GT4RS does not come with the luggage cover( Porsche tells you that the reason why is that they’re trying to save weight🙄)
Anyway, so I tried to use the luggage covers from my other GT4’s, and it will not attach, and it seems as the reason being is that there are two tabs that are located in the hole where the screw goes that holds up the luggage cover on the 981, but there isn’t any in the 718 gt4rs ironically, a few friends of mine that got the early gt4rs is meaning … December and January versus mine, which came in July are able to use the luggage cover I assume their car had the tabs required to hold the luggage cover screw ???
See the pictures below
The first picture is of the 981 GT4 luggage cover hole

The second picture is of the 718 GT4RS
Notice the 2 metal tabs inside the hole

Here is the part number from the 981 luggage cover notice the screw the reason why that one attached to that 718 gt4rs is there’s no tabs for that screw to grab onto…
Anyone with knowledge as to why this is the case would be greatly appreciated🙏

Sent you a PM, but just to clarify, is the part number of the cover you are trying to use (from the 981) the same as the part number they sell for the 718 GT4RS?

Does Porsche sell a cover for the 718GT4RS? Is it the same as your 981 cover.

Unless Porsche sells the 981 cover for the 718GT4RS, I guess I'm left wondering why you think it 'should' fit?

I should have included the part numbers I was given by Porsche North America today .. it differs by one number… the last number instead of 00
It’s 01
98155534101. That’s supposed to be the same cover for the 718 GT4.??
Porsche it doesn’t make new parts they use the same parts over and over again for the life of me. I wouldn’t understand why in the world they would make a cover that wouldn’t fit both 981 and 718. It’s the same ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ body.

Have you seen the 01 part? They must have changed something? And do you know if the 01 version is even supposed to fit the GT4RS? Maybe Porsche just doesn't have a cover to fit the RS?

When I spoke to Porsche Cars North America, she made it sound as if of course there’s a part for that!
As for the 01 being different than the 00
I don’t know because I haven’t seen that part 01
Maybe somebody could post a picture of it
I just find it hard to believe knowing Porsche does well as I do that they’re going to make something different…

Well yo my surprise and shock
Oh and Tom delight ….🤣
It seems that they actually did change the part which seems nothing more than shocking, defying all logic. They seem to have gone to a threaded screw. Here is a picture of the new part.
Blow me away !!!!

Glad you found your answer. Since you know people who were able to use the 00 part on a GT4RS, I'm guessing there is a VIN-split in the parts catalog, with cars up to the split using the 00 part number and cars after the split using the 01 part number. That's Just a guess, of course, but if you browse through PET for virtually any Porsche model, you see that all the time. Those crazy engineers in Germany are constantly refining. Actual threads probably attach the cover more securely that that twist-lock lug on the 00 version (or it's just cheaper... :shh: ).

Just a wild guess but I have a feeling that maybe that one have turn wasn’t enough for them to feel it was secure enough based on the fact that the car rides literally like a buckboard…. Compared to the earlier GT four so maybe that has something to do with it I don’t know my never came loose but who knows it seemed like a really kind of cool system. They had half turn locks in done…..
Thanks for your help
Best

My GT4 is a 2021 model - build locked September 2020 and it came with the threaded part # .01 5S, so that part and configuration is not something that's new.

PS - the date code on the tabbed version pic you attached appears to be from 2010, so it stands to reason that they changed part design several years ago.

Why any of the old parts would show up on new cars, as I think you mentioned, is very odd. Maybe double check that that is in fact the case?
