I've had the Macan in the shop now for 3+ weeks for engine knock on drivers side. Originally the shop (Porsche Dealer) found a faulty valve lifter. After putting everything back together, the noise is still there. Porsche NA has instructed them to pull the cylinder head to inspect the crankcase. I'm suspecting bore scoring, rod bearing, or something like that. Has anyone experienced this? If bore scoring and slap, will Porsche replace the engine or try to fix it? 45k and under warranty.

I would probably wait and see after they pull the head and inspect. We would all be second guessing at this point, but once a full diagnosis is in your answers will likely be answered in full. Thank goodness you have it under warranty as that will give you peace of mind regardless. Since you have already chatted with Porsche NA they likely have something on file and if really severe I would ask to take your own pictures for your records. Good luck and keep us posted.

Great idea on pictures. I just asked the dealer to let me see it after the head is pulled.

If you have bore scoring at that low mileage Porsche better give you a new engine . I could be wrong but those cylinder bores should have Sumebore coating applied . Sumebore is tougher than Nickasil !

I have heard from a very respected engine builder that Porsche has struggled with the proper application of Sumebore . I hope this all works out for you .

Porsche AG said they would provide a full engine replacement. Frankly, I'm shocked, I expected to have a fight. Long block, new, and would be installed in the next two weeks after all parts come in. I'll update after I get it back and inspect it.

That's great news for you . I am curious what they determine is the failure and what do they believe caused it .

Porsche is usually pretty good about these things from what I've seen and heard. Glad it went smoothly for you!

Happy to hear you are being taken care of.
Which engine is this? Single turbo 3.0L or something else? I know the Macan has had a mix of powerplants, based on model, over its run.

It's the 3.0 single turbo. Just received word that the old engine is out, new one on it's way in. Taking forever!
