Nice to hear Porsche hasn't been playing games. Had BMW done that, I would have bought an M3 at some point.
Engine recall question...

You can check out my posts under "Engine failure " on this forum to see another potential engine problem, oilpump failure and engine replacement. Nowhere near the numbers of con rod engines, I've only heard of a handful so far. It bears monitoring, though.

Another possible problem is the 1-2 grind that many experienced, including myself; however, it is happening less as I just passed the 1k mile point - maybe it required breaking in? I have had countless manuals though, most new, including some P-cars, and I never had that happen so I am not sure it is resolved.

FWIW, this is slightly connected to my issue discussed under the thread "Engine Failure" also located under the 718 tab.
To sum up: My 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 suffered total engine failure on Sept. 25 when the oil pump quit. Towed to the dealer, diagnosed as oil pump, engine sourced from in country, but it was condemned when Porsche determined it had the same oil pump as mine. So a new one was ordered from Germany, and in 28 days from the time they first saw the car (Sept. 27), was delivered (air freight I have to assume), installed, and returned to me. I've followed the huge thread on RL about this issue and hesitate to chime in since it would appear that my case was slipped in ahead of many of the con rod failure cars since they have been waiting months and months for their cars while mine was fixed in a month. Why? Can't say, no logic behind it but I'm grateful. Maybe because I had enjoyed my car for six months (took delivery at PEC ATL on April 1) and thus was in a different category from those who had never even seen their cars. Oh, I received a CPO warranty extension and another 2 years of free maintenance for my trouble.
