Turbo cooling thermostat orientation

I am finishing up the maintenance and am experiencing a very small leak at the plastic thermostat housing that connects to the turbo. I am checking my work, trying to find/stop the leak. How should the mini thermostat be oriented with respect to the water pump and plastic housing? I have a new o-ring and housing and put sealant on the threads. Any suggestions on how to stop the leak?

Those plastic housings are not designed well. With only 2 bolts, the housings tend to warp upward in the middle making them leak and hard to seal. Put it on a flat surface and put a flashlight behind it (or use a feeler gauge) to see if there's a gap in the middle parts. If so, you might be able to flatten the surface with a belt sander, or use goo to seal the gap, but the two times it happened to me i just got a new housing...

A pressure tester might also help confirm/pinpoint the leak in case it's as simple as the hose not sealing or something.

By the way, another common issue is using a standard bolt on the neck at the front of the head. It can prevent the neck from sitting flat, with the same effect.

I took your advice on the turbo thermostat housing and used a medium flat file and filed it until flat. Also used a little water pump gasket type of sealant for good measure. It doesn’t leak now.
