I am re-building this engine for Erik.
Not sure if it’s going to be the 86 block or the original 89 block yet.

I am going to try this shop and I think he can fix it.

Every rotating part will be delivered to him for balancing as it’s local to us.

Engine only had about 15000km/ 9000 miles

A shop in California did the crank work originally back in 2001 or 2002. Never seen one modded like it.

As far as crank replacement if needed I will trade Erik one of my 2.5L cranks and money for a 3.0L crank he has.

Yikes, I guess I'll spring for the $2 oil pick-up seal for my next motor. Think that crank will polish out or would you have it machined/hardened? I have one from a 2.7 motor (78.9mm) you can have, but I can only imagine what they'd charge to ship a 65lb crank to you....almost certainly more than it's worth.

Bead blasted then light hand sand with 320.

Will hit it with 600 later

Try a drill mounted wire brush - it makes for a nice shine and it also smooths the surface so it doesn't trap dirt as well as the stock finish. Also very easy to touch up later!

I will potentially do that. I used a brass brush on my balance shaft covers and it gives it a slight gold color.
I would love to find an oil shedding clear coating as well.
After cleaning 7 blocks so far I want to come up with something that makes the job easier.

I want to buy a steam pressure washer so badly. Quite a few models to choose from and I like the 155C / 311F range ones the best.
They also have separate soap pump not the crappy siphon type. These models are still made in Germany I believe.

I used one of my first turbo in 1994 to clean the engine and it was phenomenal. Nothing works better.

I usually have the block / head soda blasted as part of a build. that does a great job cleaning but leaves a surface that really traps oil/grease/dirt.
Try a steel wheel brush - I really like the finish it leaves on the alusil block - kind of shiny and smooth and seems to shed oil easily.
I also pressure wash the blocks / heads after any machining. Not much fun in winter!
