I need to rewire my mirrors and found all the color codes on the electrical diagram.

Does anyone know where to purchase bulk wires that roughly match the ~15 different wires in the Porsche multi colored scheme?

Thanks!

I came up with this a while back when I needed a few I couldn't find. There used to be a supplier for color-coded metric wire online in the US but they seem to be out of business. But these days it's very difficult to find metric color-coded wires. You can use SAE wire, but you need to make some compromises on size. 20AWG is a pretty close match for .5mm^2 wire, but 1mm^2 doesn't have a good SAE equivalent. 18AWG is .82mm^2 and 16AWG is 1.3mm^2 (and way bulkier). Lots of charts online to help.

Thanks all - I’m sure one of those options will work. I’ll probably try the paint pen method first since that will reduce the number of wire colors to 5 for this job.

I bought wire from Sherco. It's not TXL or GXL, but it is marine wire, so even though the insulation layer is a little thicker I think the wire quality is worth it. They didn't have quite all the Porsche colors, but they had quite a number of them.

I wasn't aware of Sherco -- looks like a good place to keep in mind, thanks! It's a good point too, to keep in mind the marine and airplane supply places. I end up at West Marine once a year for something. They are the only place I could find with the right sized high-pressure fuel hose for the 944 gas tank for example. The other place I use like that is aircraftspruce.com, which has lots of quirky stuff you won't find at most auto/hardware places, including lots of high-end wire.

I've checked Digikey and Mouser and some of the other big electronics houses, and no one seems to have a real selection of metric hook-up wire. Digikey has a few metric-sized wires in limited colors but virtually nothing in comparison to its AWG selection. I found an article from 2010 that said US auto makers were adopting ISO 6722 -- a metric standard -- but it seems like the wire-selling world has all but abandoned metric wire in the meantime. Or I'm just googling wrong?
