Where do you see #49? Thom was, in fact, the first person to join Carpokes. I became a member as part of setting up the site, but Thom found it on his own and joined. If memory serves, I told him about the domain previously when I was trying out ideas. Then, I set this forum up, and was still evaluating it when suddenly Thom joined. Within a few weeks we had a hundred or more, so we went with it and have been working on it ever since....chris white wrote: Mon Dec 26, 2022 4:10 pmHome come the first car poke has Id #49?Thom wrote: Mon Dec 26, 2022 2:05 pm Merry belated Christmas to you too. When you quote someone (like you user Id #2!) the quote code includes an id numberTom wrote: Mon Dec 26, 2022 4:42 pmWhere do you see #49? Thom was, in fact, the first person to join Carpokes. Interesting. No idea how the system assigns those IDs. Might have to look into that. You were the 141st person to join Carpokes (thanks!), or 142 if you count me.
Edit: The system automatically assigns user IDs and uses them for all purposes in the systems database. My suspicion is that search bots are being assigned user IDs even though they are not real members. The system does keep track of their comings and goings to some extent, so this must be how. The search bots are relentless, so I'm guessing 47 bots found Carpokes before Thom did...

That's interesting. I see your ID (Chris) as 196 and Tom's as 2 (neither of which is actually correct as Tom has stated) but I don't see my ID number nor any other numbers except for the post ID #.chris white wrote: Mon Dec 26, 2022 4:47 pmWhen you quote someone (like you user Id #2!) the quote code includes an id numberTom wrote: Mon Dec 26, 2022 4:42 pmWhere do you see #49? User ID #1 is reserved by the system, so #2 makes sense for me, and if you assume a rush of bots when we started and a smattering of them joining over time, it all seems to make sense. As best I know, those numbers are used by the system exclusively, as part of the database queries. That said, if my theories are all correct, the smaller your user ID, the earlier you joined. Of course, your "join date" is listed in your public profile and is surely the best way to know how long someone's been a member.blueline wrote: Mon Dec 26, 2022 5:16 pmThat's interesting. You're right Tom, this is all a mute point. However, what I was saying was that I don't see any ID # for me when I begin a reply. (IE: before I actually post a message.) All I see is the person(s) ID #'s (even if innacurate) in the header of the draft post. I'm curious as to what Chris is seeing and why. Browser specific issue maybe?
No matter. Unimportant.
Happy day after Christmas everyone!

I think your own post needs to be part of what you are quoting, in order to see your own user ID (you are 1886). Happy day after Christmas to you as well, and apologies to @AudiSport for the detour away from that brace...blueline wrote: Mon Dec 26, 2022 5:48 pm You're right Tom, this is all a mute point.
