That's the share of total 996 production relegated to the TARGA body style. Thus, the rarest 996 body produced. These 996.2 TARGAs were the only "Greenhouse" TARGAs offered with RWD. All subsequent 997 etc Greenhouse TARGAs were 4 wheel drive only. It is also the "smallest" (narrow body) and lightest water cooled Targa built. Oh...and it had a DIP STICK !!!!
Saw my 1st Porsche, in 1962, at age 11, whilst riding with Dad in his VW, in Tucson, AZ.
Love at 1st sight....

AND....that A to C piller makes it WAY less "twisty" than the "normal" old school Targas and any year's cabriolets.....
It does not, give that same "open air" feel as the "normal" Targas, though.... The new Targas are very complicated mechanical and hydraulic Rube Goldberg set ups, just waiting to slither into your bank account. I openly admit, I love the original "normal" analog Targas the best, but, at my age, I like real AC, the 3.6 motor and the wonderful 6 speed box, so......Oh ya, and the fact I could get the 996 for about 1/3 rd to 1/5 th the price of any F or G body Targa.
