I can only imagine that Porsche in the 1980s had a glut of seam-sealer at the factory, they use so much of it and everywhere!
I'm repairing some rust in the trunk of my '79 450SL, and it seems Mercedes did the same thing back in the day. There are places in the trunk where it's half an inch deep if not more. In fairness, there's no rust under those parts. :wtf:

I’m always amazed how flexible the stuff is 35 years later!
BTW- the vibratory tool with a wood blade work pretty well in the tight areas.

Are you restricted to certain rules in regards to what you build here? Or is this just a fun car? Reason I ask is that you're at the time where you could look to some really effective aero which makes a ton of difference on the track. A proper splitter with diffusers is a big plus and then look at where you position the rear wing. There's lots more to it than that but it's not often that you're at this point of building a wide body track car. Food for thought.

It’s mainly a ‘fun’ car but could fit GT class in PCA if I felt like it. I am planning a good rear diffuser (know of any sources?) and a good front splitter. The existing wing is nice and high away from the disrupted flow. I want to go with a flat bottom (really should be called a sculpted bottom) to get the down force in the right spot. That may take a little trial and error testing.
