Unless I had warranty coverage with a dealer, I’d NEVER take my 996 to them. I found a specialty shop (there are many of them) where a specific mechanic works on my car and knows me and my 996.
Dealers know I’m not likely to buy a new car or trade up beyond my means….it feels like a fast food drive through to me! And for this I should pay extra?

I do my own now but I may have to take my GT3 to a specialty shop. The local Boise dealer wants $900 for what it takes me $75 for oil and $29 for mahle filter and crush washers

Why don’t you continue doing your own oil change? Easy enough

Agreed! Now I can only speak to my 997, but of all the vehicles I've owned in my life, it is the easiest car to do an oil change. Mainly because of the easy access to the filter - right next to the drain plug, what more could I ask for?

I'll add this: I dropped by my dealer this week to see about an appointment for what I believe might be an ECU issue. Sometimes the PIWIS Porsche diagnostics are necessary and they have us over a barrel on that. Anyway, they are over 6 weeks out for appointments! I couldn't believe it. I'm going to buy a new car from or rely on a dealer's service department when they can't even get a guy in for 6 weeks? I don't think so!
