I'm a guy who still listens to the radio in the car. But the hair thickness wire in my windshield is just not getting the job done. Has anybody had luck upgrading their antenna to pull stations (FM) in better than what I have? I checked to see what Crutchfield has but no luck. Any options out there for better reception? Much appreciated!

I have not used any aftermarket antenna, but there are lots of products out there, including signal boosters.
I looked at https://www.crutchfield.com as an example.
Good luck.

Does the 997 have an antenna signal booster? If that becomes inoperative or disconnected, radio reception will be horrible. (In my 944 with antenna-in-windshield, the windshield-to-booster connection was fine, and the booster had power, but the booster-to-stereo connection had worked its way loose resulting in terrible reception).

I've tried FM boosters in other cars and never had much luck. I think the head unit makes a difference too. You can retrofit Sirius XM to just about any car -- I can't live without it these days, endless listening options, plus sports, news, comedy, you name it. Or if you have good cell coverage, you can get most radio stations and/or a streaming music service on your phone and Bluetooth or aux input) to the stereo... I'm adding Bluetooth to the Becker-Mexico radio in my old Mercedes for that purpose, so if your radio doesn't have it, I'm sure you can add it...

I have wondered if a different head unit would solve the issue. I'm not sure how to tell what the issue is (antenna or head unit?). As to does the 997 have a signal booster...I have no idea.

My reception is fine locally but I know that when I get out into the boonies it is worse than my '99 Passat or my '02 Tacoma. In the 911, I lose stations that I would otherwise be getting in the other vehicles. The reasons for this are lost on me.

My last long road trip in the 944, I remember getting stations up and down the dial even in the middle of Nebraska and South Dakota. It was all talk and country music, but I could pull in stations with my window antenna just fine. I do have a modern era Kenwood receiver (with Bluetooth and HDFM, etc). So a different head unit may be a factor. So might any factory signal booster.
